“AWESOME Place and People!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2011

Barry and Jim are the best. They are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Both are former employees of Park Service and USGS. Homely little cabin, well decorated and every amenity thought out for a guest. Completely comfortable and so relaxing.
I liked the do-it-yourself breakfast (eggs, coffee, milk, cereal, bread provided by Barry) and full kitchen and privacy of a separate cabin.
I'd like to stay for a month. 10 thumbs up!!!

We stayed at Crater Rim Cabin from March 14-17, 2011. Upon arrival we were greeted by Barry who gave us an overview of the cabin and its amenities. The cabin was well equipped with fresh fruit, breakfast foods and drinks. He gave us suggestions of hikes to take, places to visit and restaurants in the Volcano area. You can see how much love Jim and Barry have for this cabin by the care and cleanliness, the decor and the furnishings. It was a great location being so close to the National Park. We would highly recommend this cabin to all who are visiting this area.

Barry and Jim have done everything possible to make this cabin feel like home. We had to arrive after hours and there was a welcome sign, and a perfect list left for us with everything we needed to know - and then some. There were candles left burning to light up the place and the electric blanket was turned on. All kinds of breakfast foods, too - fresh fruit, bread, eggs, juice, coffee . . . And it was cleaner than our own home! The only thing missing was a hair dryer. We left that as a suggestion since no one travels with those anymore. We were in Hawaii 3 weeks, but at Crater Rim for only 2 nights. Wish we'd have booked longer here!

We lodged at the Crater Rim Cabin for only 2 nights, and like virtually all in the guestbook wished it were for a week. Jim and Barry are incredibly helpful, the cabin was spotless and very, very comfortable while rustic and cozy. It is not easy to find, especially at night in pitch dark and no streetlights, despite the excellent emailed instructions (as they used daytime photos obviously) but once in, we were delighted. This will always be our first choice for visiting the Volcano Park.

We arrived late so missed being greeted by Jim and Barry, but we felt welcome from the moment we drove into the drive. All the little extras such as the welcome sign, the Hawaiian Host candy, the information about the area and the great coffee made for a warm welcome. The cabin was well stocked for breakfast, clean and comfortable. We didn't want for anything other than more time to spend there.

I can't say enough about this place - we absolutely loved it! From the moment you get there, you feel welcome. There was a little sign welcoming us when we drove up, the heater was on in our room and the electric blanket was even turned on to keep us toasty. The place is immaculate, incredibly quiet and peaceful. The owners are amazing as well. We highly recommend it and will definitely go back!

This place is very close to the Volcanoes National Park entrance, near surprisingly yummy food in Volcano Village and even comes with food to make your own breakfast. LOVE!

Jim and Barry are wonderful hosts. The cabin offered a ton and lacked nothing. We felt like someone handed us the keys to their well stocked home. We couldn't find a thing out of place or a single thing that could be improved upon. The only possible drawback is that you might not want to leave the cabin to go enjoy the island. But if you do, you'll have a great place to come home to. We were also very pleasantly surprised by the great restaurants nearby.
