“Incredible view of the volcano”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Museum gives a thorough explanation of the geology, and a park ranger gave a spirited talk. The volcano overlook is open 24 hours a day.

“Everything you want to know.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

This museum has a small but detailed display of artifacts, histories, and real time monitoring equipment all dealing with volcanism on the Big island. My 11 year old particularly liked trying to register on the seismograph.

The view of the crater from the patio is awesome. Smoke was billowing from the main crater as well as smaller fumaroles on the caldera floor. Strands of glass Pele's hair could be found on rocks and trees. We were also treated to a rainbow arcing down into the caldera I front of us for a time.

We returned at dusk to see the lava glow but were turned back as the parking lot was full. We parked at the outlook before the museum and waled the cold and windy path to the museum to see the glow. The path is well marked, but flashlights are a plus.

“Volcanoes, need I say more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Its a volcano museum that overlooks the worlds most active volcano - do I really need to describe more? - if you go - read about the vulcanologist who survived a lava flow . . . VERY COOL!

“Very nice museum and great spot to see the glow from the Caldera”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

Small but hands on museum - kids very engaged throughout the tour of the museum and the exhibits brought to life a number of things they had read/learnt about volcanoes.

“Thomas A. Jaggar Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

Great museum. Be prepared for rain/cold. Wear closed toe shoes. Lots to see and learn. A fun way to spend the morning and then have lunch in the village.
