“Good View of main crater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2012

This is a must do, you get a great view of the main crater. Sadly there was too much Sulphur Dioxide to allow us to hike out to the smaller crater as I had done back in 1993. Good informative exhibition inside, and I was glad to see they've taken down the display of rocks and letters about how Pele supposedly cursed people who took rocks. Its a silly myth that was started by a tour operator and has no basis in fact. The display was apparently just perpetuating the myth.

“Great vantage point to view Kilauea crater”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

The museum is located at the edge of the Kilauea crater and the patio provides a great vantage point to view the glowing Kilauea crater. There is also an excellent display about the Hawaiian legends around volcanoes and also some coverage of the scientific aspects around the same. The best time to visit is after sunset (or just before) so that the glowing Kilauea crater can be seen in all its splendor !!

This was a good place to get an overview of the volcano, the eruption sites (past and present) and the island overall.

“Jagger Museum Worth a Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2011

Whenever we are in the Volcano National Park, we visit the Jagger Museum. It reminds us of the power of the volcanic life that permeates the area. Especially important to visit at night, when you can see the glow of the lava off in the distance.
