“Perfect B&B, extremely clean, and GF friendly!! A++”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

My wife and I stayed at the end of June 2014 - we are just finishing our tour of Hawaii (second time in two years) and the Hale Moana Hawaii B&B has been the best. From now on won't bother with hotels. Staying here was a great experience.

Very clean accommodation quarters, gluten-free friendly (finally somewhere), spacious car-parking, FREE wireless fast internet, beautiful residence and grounds and excellent breakfasts!! Petra the owner is very knowledgeable about the attractions of the Big Island and anything Big Island-related. Petra was very helpful throughout our entire stay. This assistance was invaluable to us - thank you.

We can highly recommend this place to anyone doing their research on where to stay on the Big Island. 5/5, 10/10, A++.

Room Tip: Pualani Suite is what we stayed in - basically a very new self-contained spacious unit. Excellent!

If you are looking for a place to stay on the east side of the island, you should consider this place as an option. My family stayed here for a couple of nights and it worked out great. It's a little bit over 30min drive to Hilo and Volcano but it's worth the drive. From the gracious host - Petra, to the attractions nearby (tide pools, lava tree park, hot pool, scenic drive on 137, etc.), to the trampoline that my kids enjoyed quite a bit, to the yummy breakfasts, and just simply the gorgeous surroundings. I also had booked a hotel in Hilo but I'm glad I cancelled that one and stayed at Hale Moana. It was perfect for my family and might work out for you as well.

Room Tip: the Garden room with the convertible sofa was perfect for a family of 4

Hale Moana B&B it's a great place to stay, it is close to hot spring natural pool, snorkeling locations, black sand beach and not too far from the volcano national park. Petra, the owner, is lovely and very helpful in anything you might need during your stay and also makes the best breakfast, with variety of tropical fruits, bread, cereal, cake and every morning also a special dish for your delight. Also the place is located in the Pahoa town were you can have great food in the local restaurants.
We definitely recommend Hale Moana B&B, you will have the best sleep ever with the sound of the tropical forest in the garden just in front of your room.

We stayed at Hale Moana for 2 nights. We found the location to be great (we loved Pahoa), the huge garden was gorgeous (the owner did it all herself), and the breakfast was the best we had during our whole trip (we stayed at 3 other locations afterwards). The breakfast had an assortment of different things, including coffee and tea. The fresh papayas were amazing and the banana pancakes were my favourite. The only complaint about breakfast was that the tea and coffee got cold very quickly in their containers and we needed more refills, which we never got. The owner is very nice and informative. She greeted us late at night when we arrived from our flight and she told us about great local places to visit. The bedroom we stayed in (on the ground-level closest to the house) was very small and needed to be updated a bit with a fresh coat of paint and cleaner drapes. Other than that it was fine for our purposes. The place is very beautiful and I think the bigger rooms are better, but we only had the option of the small one when we booked. I would go back again.

Room Tip: The smallest room is very small: for one or two people.

We ended up at Hale Moana very last minute due to problems w/ our reserved B&B in Pahoa. Petra was very gracious to take us in at 8:30 at night w/ just a couple hours' warning. She had house guests of her own, and a dinner party planned the following evening, so I'm sure we were not anticipated, and she made us feel very welcome. Lovely little place, great breakfasts. I'll never forget the banana pancakes! Petra appeared when needed but otherwise disappeared discreetly. Lovely children, and we got to meet her parents as well. I'm familiar w/ East Hawaii, but she was able to provide additional information about lesser-known sites in the Pahoa area, which roads are passable for low clearance cars, etc. hale Moana is definitely on our return list!

Room Tip: We stayed in the downstairs studio, which was a little small, but that was our choice. More than ha...

The Hale Moana was my first Bed & Breakfast experience. The property is located off the beaten path in a residential neighborhood that is very quiet. We stayed in two different rooms while here, and they were more like little apartments with quite a bit of privacy. Petra gave lots of helpful information about the area. The only downside is no air conditioning, which is pretty rough when one spends the days doing some very challenging hiking at Volcano National Park. Granted the nights generally cooled down quite a bit, but the did nothing for the humidity. If a fairly sedentary vacation is planned, it would probably be fine... The breakfasts are varied, plentiful and very good. Petra is very sweet. The property is clean, beautiful and easy to find. We highly recommend it!

Room Tip: The master bedroom in the upstairs two-bedroom suite was cooler than the one in the Garden Suite due...

Hale Moana Bed & Breakfast is truly a paradise. The gardens and landscaping are spectacular. The breakfast food was truly delicious. Petra is so welcoming and helpful with fantastic tips and information to help a traveler make the very most our of their trip to the Big Island. We followed her advise and she was right on. The Garden Suite was so beautiful and had everything we wanted and more. I would highly recommend it.
