“Amazing hawaiian rain forrest just behind your windows”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

We stayed in the place for 3 nights and it really was one of the highlights of my 2 weeks stay in Hawaii. Not going to elaborate on the accommodation, food and in-keeper, plenty was written on that already. Overall this was very good.

However if you want to experience the lush Hawaiian rain Forrest with all its wonders, this is the place. And a morning stroll, just before breakfast in the Lava tree park next to the property, you will never forget that. The ambiance of that place is amazing. And those gardens with all the tropical fruits, you can imagine. And you get it for breakfast, all natural :))

If I ever come back to Hawaii, this would be a must for revisit.

I wish you a strong health Irene to maintain the property at least two more decades!

Room Tip: If you got sleep problems, take ear plugs for the frogs, they can be a nuisance for some. But that i...

After staying in a hotel in Hilo on our last trip to the Big Island, I wasn't really looking forward to going. Staying at this wonderful B & B made all the difference! We were able to truly experience the Island more fully and enjoyed it so much more. Irene is a wonderful hostess and has the attitude my home is your home or as we say at home, mi casa es su casa. The house is a spacious, comfortable eclectic with a little Hawaii flair and a little old country flair as well. The breakfast on the veranda was great with fresh pineapple, mango, papaya, avocados, and orange juice fresh from her garden along with other delightful treats. I hung out at the house while hubby was working and enjoyed the peace and quiet and beauty of the tropical rainforest. Neighbors dropped by and everyone was extra friendly. Got up one morning to go to the geothermal pool *(The Hot Pond) on the beach just minutes a way and next time I go, I will swim everyday, it was wonderful. Uncle Robert's Nighttime Farmer's Market was a short drive, a great party and great food, also on the beach. Mostly locals go to these places but they make you feel so welcome! I would recommend this location and experience to anyone wanting to feel like the Island is their home! Lots of places to eat nearby. The restaurant voted best of that side of the island is minutes away too and it was fantastic. Kaleo I believe it was called. Like someone says, the road is rugged to get there but that part of the road is not long. If you want to feel like an insider instead of a tourist, do this. You'll love it.

Room Tip: This home was built by an airline pilot with 5 children and each had a room. There is a suite with...

The Lava Tree B&B isn't easy to find and the track in is quite rough but once there its easy going comfort. It is in a beautiful part of the Island close to wonderful sights and activities. Irene is engaged and very helpful. We loved the open screened windows in Hawaii and the balmy tropical night air is alive with frog song, which to us it was delightful and with rain on the metal roof, we slept wonderfully. Maybe it is a country specific thing, but on B&B standards from our part of the world, breakfast was pretty simple here. But it was way more basic at other B&Bs and hotels. So Irene's was definitely the best we experienced other than a top priced resort which was OTT. We enjoyed Irene's Lava Tree Tropic Inn, her enthusiasm, advice and help and the lovely quiet and beauty of the area will stay with her again if we can.

Room Tip: Rooms are all different and I suspect all lovely.

We stayed here for three blissful nights and was very sad to leave for Kona. Irene is a very gracious hostess and her breakfasts were amazing. This is a bed and breakfast that feels more like you are staying in a good friend's spacious home because Irene makes you feel like part of her family immediately. The rain falling and singing Coqui frogs lulled us to sleep on some of the most comfortable beds I've slept on, and I travel a lot! The location is away from the hustle and bustle of Hilo but not too far so you can head into town to enjoy what they have there (Farmers Market is a must!). Irene also prepares healthy but delicious breakfasts using some of the fruits and vegetables grown on her property. I will definitely be going back again.

A peaceful oasis in the rainforest! Our room was spotless, as was the modern bathroom. There is speedy wifi throughout. I loved the fruit trees and garden, with the chickens roaming freely through the yard. Irene was a lovely host, she recommended some great places to eat and set a wonderful fresh breakfast to prepare us for our busy days. There is a large lounge area inside as well as the beautiful garden, which has some rare exotic flowers. I would definitely recommend this place, you will need a car to get there, and i will return if i go back to hawaii!

Room Tip: They all seemed ok. After reading reviews i prepared by taking earplugs for the noisy frogs, but did...

Green Features: Irene grows and makes much of the food she presents at breakfast, from homemade bread to yummy fresh eggs, fruits spreads and conserves. There are also large water tanks on the property.

Irene is a lovely host. The location is so peaceful. The rooms are clean and the grounds beautiful. So close to Pahoa and the lava tours. The breakfast is fantastic served on the verandah. If you are lucky Irene will serve some of her homemade spreads. I highly recommend it.

I stayed at the Lava Tree Tropic Inn in April 2013 for the second time. I originally went there in November, and liked it so much that I had to go back.

The owner, Irene, is the nicest and most amazing person I have ever met at an accommodation.

The breakfasts are great and served on a lovely covered porch, and with a gorgeous view of orchids, pineapple and lush forest.

The room I stayed in was absolutely amazing with at least a queen sized bed, and a private bathroom. It was quiet and comfortable.

I would absolutely go there again, and recommend it to anyone.
