“Great location for exploring the south of the island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2011

Not far from the green and black sand beaches. We stayed in the Orchid Room which was clean and quiet. The breakfasts were excellent and served on the large wonderful lanai. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We visited a really interesting coffee farm and a seahorse farm because of the information they gave us.

This was our base for two wonderful weeks. A beautiful B&B that delivered high standards with regards to both Bed and Breakfast. We stayed in the Orchid room (a double with en-suit) which was bright, comfortable and clean. The breakfasts were delicious - wide choice of fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt, bagels, toast with preserves, muffins, fresh Ka'u coffee and fruit juice. It was the perfect way to start the day before heading out to explore.

The Lanai (communal area) is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine or a local island beer in the evening after a day out. The use of a fridge and microwave makes it easy to prepare a quick snack, a picnic or even dinner.

The hosts, Lynn and Randy were so welcoming, friendly and attentive throughout our stay. Their local knowledge and top tips for must-see sights (especially hidden gems not included in the guidebooks) were priceless and ensured that we made the most of what the island had to offer. Daily directions and advice about where to park, eat and find the best prices for snorkel gear, coffee or souvenirs made our holiday... it is that extra personal touch that makes Leilani Bed and Breakfast not only the best accommodation on the Big Island but the best B&B we have ever had the pleasure of staying in.

The perfect location to explore the entirety of the south of the island, practically equidistant from the two main towns of Hilo and Kona. There are many accessible attractions and must-see sights within easy driving distance includes the Volcanoes National Park, Punalu'u Black Sand Beach, South Point (southernmost point in the USA), Green Sand Beach, Whittington Beach Park, Kealakekua Bay (perfect place to snorkle), City of Refuge and the Botanical Gardens.

We would definitely recommend Leilani Bed and Breakfast. The perfect place to stay and very good value for money!

Leilani b&b is in a great location for exploring lonely South Point (watch the wild kite fisherman), Punalu'u black sand beach(tons of turtles) and Volcano Park (awesome). A trip up Wood Valley was a hidden and surprising gem. The property has its own lava tube and macadamia nut tree with a required macadamia nut cracker. Don't miss the masalas and Hawaiian sweet bread at the Punalu'u bakery. Breakfasts were delicious. We were very well taken care of.

My boyfriend and I picked Leilani for its convenient location between Hilo and Kona - if you only have a few days on the island and want to see both towns, this is a great place to stop for a night.

We spent a day and good chunk of the evening exploring Volcanoes National Park, and drove to Leilani that night (a little over an hour drive). They were great about giving us a late check-in, even leaving the lights on in their screened-in common room.

This was our first stay in a bed and breakfast and it was a bit weird for us to feel like we were staying in someone's guest room (the owners live in their own home next door - connected by the common room). That said, it was very comfortable and blissfully quiet. We stayed in the "shell room," which was comparable in size to a hotel room, and because there was no one staying in the 3rd room, had our own bathroom.

The owners of Leilani are extremely friendly and accommodating. A nice breakfast was waiting for us in the common room in the morning and the owners were more than willing to share their insights of things to see/do in the area. I would definitely stay at Leilani again and recommend it to anyone wanting a nice relaxing place to stay. The price was great too, though we stayed during the off season.

If you stay at Leilani, consider driving to Ka Lae (southernmost tip of Hawaii & the U.S.), Punalu'u (black sand beach with the potential to see sea turtles!), or hiking to the green sand beach. All worth the time and effort!

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Leilani B&B, and felt it was one of the hidden gems of our honeymoon trip. The Orchid Room, one of 3 total they have available, was lovely and very comfortable, and had a roomy private bathroom. Everything we saw, including our bedroom, the bathroom, and common areas, was spotlessly clean. Proprieters Lynn and Randy were the perfect hosts, helpful and accomodating but unobtrusive. The breakfast was a wonderful way to start our day and included a very wide assortment of muffins and bagels, cereals, juices, yogurts, fresh fruit, and all the trimmings (for dinner, we were so pleasantly surprised by the nearby and homey Desert Rose Cafe in Ocean View). And, the location of the Leilani made for an ideal base camp for our daily excusions to the nearby Volcanoes National Park, Punalu'u Black Sand Beach, Green Sand Beach, etc. All in all, we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay, and for the price, it definitely can't be beat. We highly recommend it!
