“Macadamia Meadows Bed & Breakfast - a perfect retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

We would highly recommend the Macadamia Meadows Farm both for vacationers, and people visiting Pacific Quest!

We stayed a the Macadamia Meadows Bed & Breakfast for 3 nights while visiting our son at Pacific Quest. We visited one other B&B in Ocean View first (but decided not to stay) and then went to the Macadamia Meadows Farm B & B. It was located within a mile or so of the PQ program. It was just that and so much more. We knew that we were in for an intensive few days and really were looking for a tranquil, home style, kid friendly, place to stay. We traveled with 2 younger children (8 and 9). The Macadamia Meadow's B & B and is farm a great location for kids. There is a nice pool and tennis courts and the farm itself was a wonderful place to play and explore. The room was comfortable, extremely clean, quiet, and homey. It was very peaceful and we all slept well.

The owners, Courtney and Charlene, really catered to our needs. They go above and beyond! Our original plans for childcare had fallen through. They were very helpful and assisted us in any way we needed including helping us with childcare. They are warm and genuinely caring people. The really helped us out.

Our children really enjoyed exploring and playing on the farm. There was enough open space in a nice outdoor setting. One of the highlights was the tour Charlene gave us of the farm. Our children really enjoyed learning about and cracking macadamia nuts. They enjoyed the space to run around. Overall it was a great, positive, experience.
We would highly recommend the Macadamia Meadows Farm both for vacationers, and people visiting Pacific Quest! For us, it was a tranquil retreat.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights recently while visiting our daughter at Pacific Quest. We arrived late and had pre-arranged for the owner to meet us. Upon arrival, we were kindly greeted, escorted to our rooms and asked if we needed anything. Breakfasts were delicious and we were served generous portions. During our stay, the owners provided us with excellent tips on how to see some of the sights. We were given towels and a cooler with water bottles one morning when we explained we were going to South Point, green sand beach and black sand beach. The owner gave excellent directions. The rooms were clean and spacious. If we needed anything, we just had to ask and they would provide. My husband and I both slept thru the roosters crowing, without using the noise machine. The farm is a beautiful setting. If you are visiting someone at Pacific Quest, this place is only 5 minutes away! Perfect location for us and close to the places we wanted to visit. Only 45 minutes from Volcano National Park. We would stay again.

Cortney and Charlene are what other hosts should model themselves after. Their hospitality, interaction with guests, and overall genuine caring for a guests stay is phenominal! I actually am having a difficult time putting into words to describe our stay there. This is a working Macadamia Farm and a Bed and Breakfast combined. The knowledge shared by the hosts was vast and free flowing which allowed us to choose what sights and activities we wanted to do for each day. If it is a piece of heavenly solitude and peace you seek, then look no further and book your stay here. These folks are genuine, true and extremely personable. We shared stories, information, history, and a great time.

If you are looking for a quiet home style rest, with low prices, good company, and good filling breakfast to start the day, look no further!!
The Macadamia Meadows Farm Bed & Breakfast is perfectly located in the Waiohinu and Naalehu areas. It is a very quiet and peaceful area
that allows you to enjoy the real laid back and very friendly Hawaiian land and people. You are about 10 miles from South Point beach and 15 miles east of Green Sands beach (one of only two green sand beaches in the world). Forty miles to the south you can visit Volcano National Park that has miles and miles of trails through tropical forest and the rim of the caldera of mount Kilauea! The innkeepers Courtney and Charlêné are very accommodating to your needs and share their hospitably and wealth of knowledge of the area to enlighten your appreciation of Hawaii. The food served is very tasty and it tailored for a day of heavy hiking or lighter for a day of business and meetings. This was my first stay in the area and it was very conducive to business/technical work I was training for during my 8 day stay. I highly recommend it to everyone and plan to go back myself in the future!

Room Tip: I was offered both rooms and they each had their appeal. I choose downstairs so I would not have to...

My spouse and I truly enjoyed the four nights that we spent here. We are normally 'hotel' people, but when we found this place, we thought it sounded so unique ("we stayed on a macadamia nut farm on the Big Island!"). It lived up to our expectations. We stayed in the large two-room suite around the backside of the main house; it was two connecting rooms with a nice size bathroom in the middle. Shower was little tight on space but no big deal. Water pressure was lacking but that was minor. The views of the orchard were very pretty right out our window. Definitely all the comforts of home - and it was clean. Our hosts, Charlênè and Cortney, were super chatty, super friendly and very knowledgeable about everything to see and do in the area. We took their advice and visited the Green Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach, all the volcanoes and the few local restaurants (they are not many as this is a very rural area). Now listen, if you are a partier, and like the nightlife, this is not the place for you. It is on the southernmost tip of the Big Island and there is only so much you can do without going to the bigger cities of Hilo or Kona. We were able to explore each of these towns, and have our base here. We loved that. This is a local, get-up-close-with-nature-and-explore-the-island kind of experience. Quiet, tons of stars at night. And yes, there are roosters that crow at dawn but with the little noise machine by the bed, I didn't even hear them. It's part of the ambiance. Hosts are definitely chatty but this is part of the charm of this place as well. There is a pool onsite but we were so busy exploring, we didn't even dip a toe in. Breakfast is served at 9 am, and they are prompt. We had a variety of things from pancakes and waffles to turkey sausage and freshly picked fruit. All were satisfying. I would stay here again, no doubt. At night, we would get chairs and sit in the large backyard and look up. Stars were amazing, no light pollution. So peaceful. And since you're so high up (like 800' above sea level) the temps were cool at night. No A/C necessary (they only have fans which were surprisingly comfortable). Staying here was an experience we will treasure. We would book here again, anytime.

We recently stayed at this bed and breakfast. The website mislead us to think we would be staying in the main house, going up the grand staircase, have breakfast in a spacious room with french doors open to a glorious view and have use of laundry facilities. Instead we were staying in a converted shed with paperthin walls. When we first ventured to our room there was no lighting on the unmade path and there are several hazards we became aware of – the slippery grass, and no room names or numbers. We enjoy meeting people and sharing a table at breakfast was perfect for this, although again we were under the impression we would be in the house, instead we were on the verandah which was quite cool first thing in the morning. When we inquired about using the washing machine we were informed we had to go to the laudromat in town.
Overall we found the B&B to be tired and shabby, the mattress in the room we stayed in needs to be replaced. The owner's attempts at energy saving strategies need to be reviewed for safety – eg outside lighting and a single globe in the bathroom led to showering in near darkness when the shower curtain is closed.
A number of these observations are in previous trip advisor reviews ago and have not addressed yet.
Overall we had a pleasant stay on the Big Island, there is so much to do and see and it is much bigger to travel around then we first thought. We would recommend people to consider the distance from the B&B to the more popular attractions on the island and to stay a night at Hilo, one at Kona and one at Volcano Village to avoid travelling long distances at night.

Spent five nights on the property. Charlena and Courtney where great hosts. The breakfast was great and the room was up to date large bathroom and comfortable sofa. While there to visit our daughter. The town is small and we ate at all the local resturants food was okay. The best part was learning so much about the island things to do and especially Charlena's tour of the farm. The reports about the Roosters are true but after the first night they didn't bother us. Great spot to be near the Black beach and the Volcano. Would reccomend to friends,
