“Who knew?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

We had breakfast many a time at this place. It's just off the main road and they will prepare your breakfast your way. We all enjoyed our time there. A long time ago, my kids got them to make 'garbage plates' of eggs, hash browns, macaroni salad, and red sauce (this is a Rochester, NY tradition at Nick Tahoe's). The guys there were going to 'try' it on the menu, but call it a 'transfer station' plate, referring to their dumps.

The food is tasty. You can eat outside. We really like this place.

“Pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

This diner tucked just off the Mamalahoa highway (Hawaii Belt road) near mile marker 19 in Lapahoehoe is obviously someone's labor of love. It is decorated so specifically and meticulously 1950's style it is fun to just go in an check out, especially the "Betty Boop" bathroom. But its not just the kitch, this food is REALLY good! So its diner fair and really tasty, comfort food. The garlic cheese fries are so good they make a meal by themselves. This is an absolute must do when you take the rental car out around the island, plan to stop for ice cream or a meal, it is just too convenient between Hilo and Honokaa on the lazy drive or sight seeing day.

“Great music Friday and Saturday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Besides the uniformly delicious food, friendly atmosphere, congenial customers, we were so impressed by the music on Friday that we came back on Saturday night for the Hawaiian music played by "Chance Im!" group. We also enjoyed the hula dancing by the group as well as customers.

“Typical 50s Diner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

It's a bit hard to locate as it sits on a road parallel to and overlooking the main road between Hilo and Honoka'a. Lots of memorabilia to look at and good hamburgers.

“How fun!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

We've lived on the Kona side for 8 years and this is the first time we visited 50's Highway Fountain Diner. It is the best. So much fun ... the staff, the decor, the food. Portions are huge. Next time we'll share an entree so we can each have a malt or shake. The lilikoi shake was awesome. Back window overlook the ocean but everywhere is fun. Elvis lovers while be in heaven here.
