“If you like americanized Italian food, this could be your place.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2009

My boyfriend and I went with high expectation. The food was okay, and the price was reasonable, but we didn’t expect New York style Italian food. We ordered two pastas which they highly recommended. The steak one is over cooked and is in Asian style, and the seafood one is very cheesy and creamy in American style. The kona coffee was just ok, tiramisu has way too much liquor and too pricy. We had way much better Italian food in Los Angeles but this could be the best in Big Island.

“Mi's Italian Bistro is the BEST on Big Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2009

This tiny restaurant in a tiny building in the tiny town of Kealakekua, Hawaii is a hidden gem. We've definitely found a new favorite. We had dinner there several time during our last trip to the Big Island and each time were extremely happy with the food and service. Don't be surprised if the owner/chef comes to your table to pour your wine and visit with you. Don't be surprised if they recognize you after your first visit and treat you like family--even to the point of remembering where you like to sit, what wine you ordered the last time you were there and greeting you with a smile that says "we know you". The food is all handmade (including the wonderful pastas) with local fresh ingredients, incredibly tasty, beautifully presented, and prices that are very reasonable. Make sure you make reservations as the restaurant is very small and fills up fast. This little secret isn't a secret anymore! We will definitely visit our "favorite" place time and time again on our next visit to Hawaii.

“Exquisite Italian food, made with local ingredients and love”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2009

This charming little restaurant offers by far the best food we had on the big Island in our 2-week vacation, and is unsurpassed in the Italian food we've had anywhere. The family that runs it was professionally trained at the best schools in the world, but they bring humility, joy, and a love for local ingredients and traditions. The food is delicious--ingredients as fresh as can be in innovative combinations that make your palate sing. Try their fish bolognese--this dish, made with fresh pasta, was a delightful surprise that reinvents spaghetti bolognese, blowing traditional dishes and preconceptions out of the water. The beet salad was also a favorite--their in-house herb crusted Macadamia nuts were an incredible topping to a crisp, tangy salad.

“Best Italian food outside Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2009

With my husband, we had the luck to stumble upon Mi's during our trip to Kona this last May. From the moment we went through the door, we were impressed with the comfortable atmosphere and the friendliness of the owners. The menu made our mouths water. We had as appetizer fresh focaccia with Mi's signature dipping (fresh diced tomato, basil, garlic, sweet onion, parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar and extra virgin oil). They bake their own bread and made their own pasta. It was simply delicious. My husband chose the pizza and I went for the Macadamia Nut Crusted chicken breast, stuffed with Port Salut, Maytag Blue and fresh basil and served with oven roasted potatoes (to perfection, I have to say), green beans and a creamy tomato pesto sauce. It was simply amazing. The chef and co-owner, Morgan Starr, has been trained in New York. The wine selection was very nice and the desserts sinful. Prices were reasonable, the food and service were worth it. We wanted to come back, but it was closed on Monday and Tuesday and were flying back on Wednesday. I cannot wait to come back to Kealakekua and eat there, I highly recommend this restaurant to everybody for any occasion!
