“Good Italian Seafood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We were keen on trying this place out after a few good reviews. It was some 30 miles from where we were and we had to take the time slot they had open as they were already booked. So we went in for an early dinner. The place was easy to find with some on-phone help from the restaurant. It was on the main highway going south from Kona. The menu had very limited choices for vegetarians but the seafood selections were plenty. We had the fresh catch of the day which was an Hawaiian Ono. The Banana Rum Flamba was out of the world. The food was delicious and the service was friendly. Overall very satisfied with the effort to get there and return.

“A Real Gem of a Find.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

My husband and I were driving by on our way back from Kealakekua Bay and looking for a spot to stop for early dinner. This little gem is so small and unassuming that we passed it first then I quickly caught a glimpse of the words, "Italian Bistro" so we turned around to go back. We were the first guests, just past 4:30pm and fell in love with the menu and stepped inside. It is a simple interior and very pleasant. We so enjoyed the meal. I mean, it was superb! It is not fair to compare restaurants but we paid a high premium at Kamuela Provision Co for the same meal and this meal was much more flavorful! I had the beef tenderloin and was the best for flavor ever. My Italian husband had the sausage pasta and he loved it. I highly recommend this little spot. What a wonderful discovery! No real view but we did catch the setting sun.

“Great Italian!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

We have been to this restaurant periodically since they opened but they just keep getting better. On our recent visit we started with a cup of Ulu (Breadfruit) soup. Spicy and slightly curry flavored but really good. That night we decided to have dinner with appetizers so we ordered the scallops wrapped with Pancetta and grilled. These were served on a small bed of spring mix with a very flavorful sauce/dressing. We also ordered the Shrimp Scampi appetizer. 6 very large shrimp served on crostini and not pasta. Quite innovative and very, very delicious. We then shared a Caesar salad which was just O.K. I have never had a Caesar Salad with Kalamata Olives. I would have given this meal 5 stars but the salad held me back. We finished the night with a Meyer Lemon Creme Brulee which was outstanding. Our total bill with a bottle of Barbara D'Asti was $92.00. Very good for this price.

“Unexpected Excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

Don't let the strip mall exterior put you off. The entire restaurant, including restroom and kitchen, are spotless. The food is fabulous. We loved our beet salad, the cioppino and the italian sausage pasta. The Banana Rum Flamba (Vanilla macadamia nut caramel over vanilla ice cream and banana bread) was amazing. Chef Starr and his gracious wife work very hard to give their guests the very best of Island-style Italian cuisine. It only took us under ten minutes to get there from Keauhou, so Kailua would only be a little bit longer. It is absolutely worth the drive. There is now a Mi's deli in the Costco industrial area. We didn't stop in, but understand they sell charcuterie, cheese and pasta.

“A real find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Excellent Italian food in an out of the way location.
Stumbled onto this place south of Kailua. We met at the door by the chef who also took our order and delivered the food. We had the crab manicotti and the cheese and herb ravioli in blue cheese sauce. Not exactly what you would expect based on the location. Don't let the building scare you off. One of our best meals on the island.
