“Yummy treats, fun owners, cool factory!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

We happened to see "Donkey Balls" candies in ABC stores in Hawaii. When on a drive to the southern tip of the Big Island, we saw the factory. On the way back, we stopped in. What a treat! In so many ways! We were lucky enough to meet the owners. Talk about creative people with a great sense of humor! We purchased some treats for our friends and ourselves. The story behind the brand is quite interesting! We HIGHLY recommend checking out this factory!!

“A fun novelty candy shop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

We stopped in to check out the store. With a name like Donkey Balls how could you not. They have a a lot of fun chocolate items. It was a lot of fun ready the various varieties of chocolate covered macadamia nuts. The balls themselves are the size of golf balls with some bigger balls also available. The staff was friendly and we bought a few bags to take back home. Overall is a fun place but the chocolate was average and price per bag was little high. Still fun to drop by and check it out.

“Wish I had bought more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

We first stopped in at this store, which was close to our house rental in Kealakekua Bay, after reading about it in one of the guide books. We actually got to see them making the balls through the glass. We took away a little bag and they were soooo tasty! We had to go back a few days later and get a bigger bag and a bunch more as souvenirs for our friends and family back home. The staff was very personable, sharing recommendations of places to visit. We were also told about how the other Donkey Ball stores in Kailua etc. came to be. Apparently the original owner sold the business several years ago to the current owners and promptly turned around and started selling franchises. Although all this went through the courts, it did not come out in the current owners` favour. But it may be useful to know that the other stores are not the real deal. It`s a fun little store on a nice little shopping strip on the highway worth the 10-20 minute drive from Kailua-Kona, especially if you`re on your way to or from Kealakekua Bay

“Best Biggest Chocolate Covered Balls on the Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013 via mobile

Donkey Balls is just plain fun to say but to eat one will have you committed to their presence for the rest of your natural life. afterwards, you may even want to have Donkey Balls at your funeral for guest so they will remember how awesome, fun, and perfect you were as a unique individual unlike anything else on this green earth. Seriously. Great stop for excellent multilayer, chocolate coated, jumbo Macnuts. They dip the nuts repeatedly to get layers of decadence over each nut to create a large chocolate treat that takes this man four bites to complete. Kind of pricey.

Great coffee too. I recommend the medium drip with cream. Very nice cup of joe to get ya going after your trip to the Volcano or any other southern exposure. They make the Donkey Balls right there for you to watch and see. They have plenty free samples too. Cool t-shirts. Every one of my visitors to the island buys one for somebody they know who is bold and daring enough to wear a Donkey Balls shirt. This is a great refuel for coffee and chocolate and the town of Capt. Cook is worthy of a walk to stretch the legs. I rate is as awesome for island treats worth stoping for. Be careful, traffic in town may be tight slow.

“Neat place with local feel. Funny merchandise, friendly staff ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Very good tasty treats. Neat little store, with neat history. Great for gifts to bring back home. Worth a vist if you are in the area. Love the tshirts, and seeing a bit of how the chocolate is made in the back room. Yum!
