We had the pleasure of dining here last Saturday evening. On our way back from Honoka'a my mom suggested we eat at this German restaurant she had heard about. Needless to say, we couldn't find the restaurant (they had closed up about a month prior.) So we decided to stop in Thiebaut.
Wow! Am I ever glad we did. We had the most wonderful meal. We had the crabcakes, bacon wrapped tenderloin, shared a huge salad and the phyllo wrapped shrimp. We are heading over there tomorrow for their brunch!
I can't wait! This is really one of the best restaurants here on the Big Island!

We found Daniel Thiebaut's at the recommendation of some local people we were talking to.

It is so pretty inside! It was once a general store in the old Hawaii days, and much beloved by local residents. It was restored at considerable expense, and the rooms of the general store and living quarters turned into individual dining rooms.

Staff is very nice, well-trained and the food is excellent. Sort of a modern, local French style using fresh ingredients including produce grown locally. What could be better than a vine ripened tomato in December? Maybe corn cut from the cob? Very creative menu and some of the best desserts we've sampled.

I had heard of the legendary beef served by Daniel Thiebaut and I can say that every expectation I had was exceeded by the meal I was served. My husband felt the same way. I am a former chef by profession, therefore very observant and critical of meals at a place such as this. Our filets were the BEST piece of meat that ever crossed our lips, we both agree. The strawberry millefeuille was unique and tasty. Everything was of the highest quality....service, presentation, preparation, taste, etc. I have NEVER been impressed by mashed potatoes until this meal. I can't compliment the place enough. My friends who don't really care about food are sick of listening to my story of this meal! And just to mention....we were seated by the chef himself. We stopped in for this meal on our way back from riding ATVs down the Waipio valley (we were visiting for our wedding/honeymoon)....so obviously we weren't dressed for a nice meal, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to eat at this place. Chef Daniel, when asked if we were appropriately dressed, comforted us by joking that we were overdressed, and made us feel very welcome. And the waitress gave me her lei and a kiss. I can't say enough nice about this place....and I can't wait to go back!!

I also reccommend them for Sunday Brunch-alas the only day that they are open other than dinner. It was about $18pp and had several great selections as well as a make-to-order omelets/eggs/waffles. Also had great baked goodies that were to die for. I used to go to Mauna Kea for their great brunch which was also much more expensive. Now that they are closed this place is a great alternative & a great value for the price.

I was in Hawaii for a family reunion. I was the activity planner and I was looking for a place where we could all get together for a Sunday Brunch. I called ahead and let them know what I was doing and when we arrived we had a private dining room off to the side that was quaint and beautiful.

The brunch items was varied from traditional items to some not, but everything was WONDERFUL. The service was excellent, they were friendly and would definitely go back.

It is very kid friendly and they will be as accomodating as you need! I highly reccommend this location to future travelers.

They have a lovely garden out back that you can cruise around with small children if getting antsy........thumbs up for sure.
