Beautiful location with exceptionally friendly staff. The breakfasts were fantastic and the rooms all had their own lanai (patio). A highly recommended property although the drive to the inn isn't well marked.

The Palms Cliff House Inn is about 20 minutes north of Hilo, perched atop some majestic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The staff was really friendly and accommodating and friendly. The front side of the inn, near the parking lot, leaves a little to be desired, but the back-side, overlooking the grounds and ocean is really amazing. The sunrise was one of the most beautiful we'd seen and the geckos sunning themselves on the palm leaves were the best.

It would be an injustice to not mention the amazing breakfasts. Wow! home-made every morning by a really nice lady who was friendly and funny and very sweet. We had a quiche one day and banana pancakes the other and both were probably the best breakfasts we've had on the islands. They are certainly a selling point - and rightfully so!

And then there's the frogs. We were told people either love them or hate them. We never saw one but there were clearly millions of them! We loved them. The rooster next door who decided when it was time to get up? Maybe not so much, but he had his charm too.

If you're looking for something quiet and out of the way on a beautiful setting then you'll likely be happy at this property. You're a good day trip from Volcanoes National Park and and easy commute into Hilo.

We spent three nights at the Palms Cliff House and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was nice, the grounds are nice, the staff is very nice. No issues other than the room safe which did not want to open again after locking some stuff up in it. The room maintenance person was able open it again. The breakfast was served out on the vernada and was quite nice. Fresh fruit and an entre of eggs, sausage, pancakes or French toast, it varies from day to day.
The staff is very attentive and will bend over backwards to help.

Room Tip: If you need A/C confirm the room is equipped beforehand. The humidity is high.

We had a great stay at the Palm's. Great location just a little outside of Hilo. Breakfasts were very very good. Rooms super clean with excellent views. Unlike some reviewers we found the staff and owners to be really nice and helpful.

A couple minor things that would make the Palms better...

At $280 per night to charge a quarter for the safe is tacky.
IT IS THE 21ST CENTURY, GET INTERNET IN THE ROOMS AND DONT CHARGE FOR IT.
Kill the Rooster...just kinding.

Room was nice and clean with many amenities. Great views of the ocean with many places to sit on the Lanai. Small grounds. Due to our schedule we were unable to eat breakfast at the Inn. We left the sliding door open hoping to hear whales, but only heard the chickens and the coqui frogs. 20 minute drive to Hilo for dinner / shopping although Honomu does have a few places open during the day.

We arrived late at night, missing the entrance once, for our one night stay. Upon arrival we were stunned at the beauty of the surroundings and our room. The place is like a mini plantation over looking beautiful cliffs and stunning ocean. The decor and all details are very tasteful. We woke up an hour earlier, just to be able to enjoy the inn and accommodations for an extra bit longer. Everyone was exceptionally nice and helpful. After making reservations, we received a phone call back to see if we had any dietary preferences for our breakfast, and they were very accommodating. The Palms Cliff House Inn was one of the highlights of our trip to Hilo!

We stayed four nights. Beautiful location, loved the lanai and proximity to the ocean. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious every morning; however the owner's wife did not speak to us although we saw her around several times. The grounds needed some cleanup. All in all, an enjoyable stay.
