“Decent food, excellent Malasadas!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

Our horseback ride through the Waipio Valley left us pretty famished and the guide recommended the local treat, "Malasadas" (fried Hawaiian sweet bread dusted with sugar) at Tex Drive-In. The prices of the food were reasonable and the place is very clean so we stayed to eat lunch. My fried chicken was a bit bland but my son loved his won ton mein soup. The food took awhile but the Malasadas were delicious and their coffee is fresh. Definitely worth it for the money!

“So good.....why did it take us to the last day to discover this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Found this place on our way to see the Waipo Valley lookout and absolutely fell in love! It is always a good sign to see tourists and locals lined up out the door. I guess this place has become world famous for their malasadas....but it was the lunch menu that got me. Real comfort food done well by very friendly folks. Make it a point to stop and see this place if only for a snack and shake.

I had the Korean chicken mixed plate with rice and mac salad(so freakin good that my wife kept begging me to share). She had a Mahi sandwich and said it was soooo good too. Kids had a hamburger (very good as I stole plenty of my daughters) and a very nice sized hot dog. We ended up taking a couple of malasadas for the road and LOVED enjoying them at a nearby beach park. We will be back for sure and will encourage everyone we know to make it a regular stop when making the drive to Hilo.

PS kids got a kick out of watching the malasadas being made right in front of their eyes (makes the wait easier for kids who have been trapped in a car).

We stopped for breakfast on our way over to Hilo. We discovered Malasadas! Great Portuguese donuts. Worth a stop.

“Oh..what fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

On a day trip from Kona to Hilo, we stopped at the popular Tex Drive In to have lunch. The very friendly gal at the counter was so friendly, explaining their famous ' malasadas' to us...delicious! Our hamburgers were delicious. The atmosphere reminded me of the old drive in McDonalds, with much better food. You can actually watch the baker making those delicious treats! We are glad we took the time to go!

“Little jewel tucked away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

Located in Honoka'a, with a taste of local Hawaiian food, with American classics. Malasadas alone are worth the trip.
