“A highlight of any trip to the Big Island”

Waianuhea

May 5, 2008

Our first four days on the Big Island were spent at Waianuhea, and what a great choice. Personable staff, terrific and well presented breakfasts, a lovely wine and hors d'ouevre hour and a beautiful setting were perhaps THE highlight of our varied 16 day Hawaii adventure. Looking in one direction from their property will give you views of Mauna Kea, and the other, the blue Pacific (with cattle grazing in between). Make sure you have good directions (a GPS helps) and try to arrive in daylight as you may find yourself second guessing your navigator--the final few miles are narrow, steep and sometimes rough. Once you've arrived, however, you'll forget all about that and revel in the tranquil beauty of this place.

“Truly the best B&B”

Waianuhea

May 2, 2008

This place is incredible. The house and grounds are beautiful and guests are invited to make themselves at home. Each room is decorated impeccably with the finest furnishings and linen. The staff are very warm, helpful, and friendly. The breakfast and the wine hour hors d'oevres were delicious. Every effort is made to insure the comfort of the guests right down to having hot coffee available at 6AM and internet access. It is about 3 miles off a main road and a bit difficult to find but oh so worth the effort. We have stayed at many very fine B&Bs but this is in a class by itself. We can't wait to go back.

“Off the grid”

Waianuhea is located on the northeast side of the Big Island. It offers a climate that is cooler and greener than Kona, which is a nice change. It is quiet and has a view of Mauna Kea that is spectacular, especially in the morning as you are eating breakfast. Mauna Kea had snow on it when we were there in April.
Waianuhea uses solar panels and batteries to store electricity for the B&B. It is off the grid which is an admirable accomplishment for such an establishment. This does not prevent them from having all of the luxuries you expect at a quality B&B.
Wainanuhea has TVs, DVD players and ethernet access in all of their rooms. The decor is enhanced with beautiful flower arrangements that brighten the rooms.
Carol had a new hot tub installed which was enjoyable while watching the stars appear.
If you are looking for a B&B that will pamper you, has beautiful scenery and if off the grid, I recommend Waianuhea.

“The Ultiamate!”

We stayed on the Big Island for 14 days and travelled around the island, staying at Bed & Breakfasts' along the way. Our last 2 nights were at Waianuhea and luckily we chose the best for last. It is set up the hills off of a small town on the ocean (East side of the Big Island about 40 miles north of Hilo).

We had such a great time on the Kona coast that we weren't really looking forward to going to the Hilo side but we sure lucked out because we LOVED it, in part because Waianuhea was the ultimate!

Back to Waianuhea. We stayed in the Malamama Suite and enjoyed every minute. On top of all the ammenities they serve THE BEST breakfast you could want. It was tailored to our diets and was beautifully presented.

Bravo to Waianuhea.
