You have to "get" old Hawaii to appreciate this place thoroughly. This ain't the Mauna Kea, and that's why it's $99 tax included. This is an idiosyncratic old place in a wonderful, little traveled setting. Back in sugar days, it was a working man's hotel as well as the place where salesman working the mill stayed. It keeps that ambiance. The view to the ocean far below is lovely, the sheets are clean, our bed was new and excellent, and the shower was hot. Yes, the faucet on the lavatory was likely to fall off if you didn't pay attention. Anyone who's had an old house is familiar with the phenomenon. And that's the point. If you want the homogenized Ramada experience, stay in Phoenix. If you want to experience a piece of old Hawaii, including the wonderful, real people who keep this place, then check out the Honoka'a Hotel Club.
