We spent 3 nights at Waianuhea and didn't see how that experience could be topped, until we got to Hale Hualalai! For a fraction of the cost, we had a beautiful, QUIET room with separate sitting and kitchen area, first class bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and a private lanai overlooking the most amazingly beautiful scene. The house is only minutes from Kailua Kona and the beach-- but set high above the chaos in a tropical paradise: lush tropical forest, coffee trees (Lon grows and serves his own fabulous brew), fruit trees, I could go on and on. Lon is a fabulous host, but totally let us have our privacy. Oh, and the comments on his cooking are not exaggerated. Breakfast was AWESOME. We had a wonderful time on the Big Island, will certainly go back, and will ALWAYS stay at Hale Hualalai!!

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon and we wished that we stayed longer. Each room (2 total) has its own lanai overlooking Kona and the sunset is just perfect. We like the remoteness feel yet it's only 10 minutes to Kona. Lonn was a great host and we definitely look forward to stay there again. Aloha.

  • Tips/Secrets: — Stay in the turtle theme suite. Better views and more privacy.

My wife and I recently returned to the Big Island for our second visit, and we stayed at Lonn Armor's Hale Hualalai B&B for eight days, based on the reviews I read here. Lonn is an enjoyable host who once worked as a chef, and his cooking talents are on full display with breakfasts such as Eggs Florentine (which even my wife, normally no fan of poached eggs, really enjoyed) and Portuguese toast (like French toast, but, er, not French, I guess) covered with peaches. Always with a big glass of homemade fruit smoothie and (of course) Kona coffee, using beans from his own coffee orchard. The B&B provides free WiFi access for those of us who cannot fully let go of our eLife (although the signal was a bit weak in my room - bring an external antenna or a high-power WiFi card if you can). The room was bright and open, with a nice big bed and a jacuzzi tub. Be sure to ask Lonn for activity suggestions - he knows people and places you won't readily find out about in guidebooks.

  • Liked — Awesome breakfasts.
  • Disliked — Scary blind left turn out of the driveway.

What a great place. Lon has constructed this home over looking the town and entire harbour from an increible vista at a high altitude. Cool in the evening, we left the door open to the lanai, very quiet, with his coffee trees and total absolute privacy surrounding his estate.
Lon is a wonderful host being very friendly, people oriented and hospitable.
Being a chef, he treated us to great breakfasts of smoothies, omelettes, and other delectable items, as well as that wonderful Kona coffee that he grows and hand picks for processing.
He really enjoys his role as a host, relaying info of the area and island, telling us all of the “locals” areas and eaterys to go to. Because of Lon, we had a very pleasant stay on the western part of the Big Island.

My husband and I stayed at the bb for two nights, let me just sum it all up. We liked our room and lanai and view so much, we basically stayed in our room the whole time. It is one of the most relaxing and beautiful places I have ever stayed. Oh and breakfast was unbelievable, what a chef. I would defiantly recommend this bb to anyone.
