Ive lived here for 5 months and i hate it! i talked to a social worker and she said shes delt with a lot of rapes that have happened here. also, the cockroaches are EVERYWHERE, i know in hawaii the cockroaches are everywhere, but this is 10 times worse. the carpet in the hallways are moldy. not to mention 2 years ago the main office burnt down and another unit, and they havent repaired any of it. after the bars got out (which are on the property) there would be fights in the parking lot, and the security guards dont do anything. im moving back home in 2 weeks and going to another college.

Rental choices are few in Hilo,but this aint one to put on your list. This place opened in the early 70's . The buildings show alot of wear & tear from rain damage.On hard rainy days & nights this place has numerous flood & leak problems. I had my very own private waterfall leaking from my 3rd story balcony ceiling on these given days.I had to always cover my expensive electronic equipments from termite droppings inside my room.Been very patient with management about all this with no luck.I can go on & on ,but other reviewers said the rest already. My advice is keep looking . I know I will.

I was a former female UH-Hilo student staying here 1 year ago.I never known this place to be a hotel. My stay there lasted only 3 months ( on a 6 month lease) because I felt unsafe. The walkways & parking lots are dark to walk thru at night.Weekends are very loud from customers going to night club. Employees start work there very early using loud yard equipment. Theres alot of trash left around property .I found renting a house is alot cheaper ,safer ,& quieter than Waiakea Villas.

I was a former UH-HILO student living at Waiakea Villas. My experience was like other reviewers. The apt buildings are connected by a rat & mosquito infested pond. Seen many times at night rats swimming in the pond from myt balcony. Ducks & goose on property dont help either leaving droppings all over. On weekends I have gotten up finding beer bottles under my car from people hanging out in parking lot before going to night club. Argued with managment about this with no solution . They say security does all they can . I dont understand why they dont just kick out loitering at night.I wont grumble about roaches knowing they live everywhere in Hawaii,but the grounds there are not kept up daily .Lawns & shrubs are overgrown leaving lot of homes for bugs to grow.Trash are left in sight for days before anyone picks it up.You are better off staying any place but WAIAKEA VILLAS!
