“Good for what you pay.”

Simple hotel without any special frills but good location and cheap. Nice that they provide continental breakfast. Perfect for overnight stay either before or after seeing the volcano park. Definitely worth the price.

This is a great location. Walkable distance to downtown, and great for exploring volcano national park. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Can't say enough good things about them. Breakfast set up is interesting and works very well.

Clean, comfortable, is a 1960's apartment building. No a/c so it can get hot during the day. Great free coffee, banana bread and fruit from their garden. Very nice owners. Only problem we had was the security. Their is a very thin window in the door that could easily be broken into. No room safe so I was uncomfortable leaving our stuff in the room. But nothing happened so it was ok. Very quite. Over all satisfied.

We stayed at the Dolphin Bay hotel in Hilo, Hawaii so we would have easy access to Volcano National Park. We got the upgraded room with the linai and loved it. Room wasn't fancy, but very clean and comfortable. Bed was really comfortable. Free breakfast of fresh fruit, bananas and papaya, from their own trees, and fresh baked banana bread, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Hotel owners/desk attendants were very helpful about what to see and where to go. Very friendly staff. We would definitely go there again. No pool or other amenities, but has a kitchenette, is very clean and comfortable. Perfect place to stay if you're not looking for luxury.

Room Tip: Get the upgraded room with the linai (patio).

Maybe not in the best area of town, but this is a great little hotel and within easy walking distance of downtown. Comfortable rooms, friendly, helpful staff, coffee & fresh fruit available anytime. Not to mention great value!

If you are basing yourself in Hilo for even a night, I absolutely recommend this place. My superior studio was clean, fairly spacious and had a small kitchenette on the side, which was a definite plus. Its nothing glamorous, but a relaxing and comfortable hotel where you can get a good night's sleep and nice shower and relax at an economic price (Please note that the rooms have fans instead of A/C, which should not be a problem given the climate). The area around the hotel is residential and quiet, and you could walk into "downtown" Hilo easily, but I'd suggest driving. So what makes this place stand out are some personal touches: There is is a mini-rainforest right behind the hotel that you can wander into; The complimentary HUGE papayas and banana bread!; and the service: a particular thanks to Ellen, who upon my check-in, did not just hand me my keys, but first sat with me and helped me figure out exactly what I was going to do over the next couple of days and answered all my last-minute questions. I look forward to staying there the next time I'm in town. *Note for reservations - you have to e-mail or call and the reservation will be physically mailed to you.

I love this hotel. I visit Hilo twice a year to see my son who attends UH Hilo. This hotel matches the ambiance of Hilo. It's a friendly quiet laid back place. They have a knowledgeable staff who can help you gain the most from your visit and the rooms are big. True there is no a/c but you have the island breeze and fans to keep the room comfortable. They grow their own fruit in their garden which is provided for breakfast and of course you will find coffee and pastries as well. The frogs chirping at night is a problem throughout Hilo as they continue to spread. They may bother some people but for me, they put me right to sleep. This is not a 5 star hotel with an updated kitchen and the newest furniture but a relaxing place to come to at the end of the day. A true local gem!
