“Wonderful discovery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

We were looking for a nice lunch break between adventures in Hilo when we were directed to this cafe. We were lucky to be seated by the window where we could people watch while waiting for our meal. We ordered the coconut calamari appetizer and it was to die for! It looked more like a cheese stick than the usual breaded circles but the flavor was something else. We also split the onomea calzone which was so hot when it arrived we had to wait to touch it. Although it was delicious it was also very messy as liquid seeped through the pastry. Definitely worth trying when in Hilo

“Great pizza”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We were given a gift voucher for this place. I'm glad because the prices are on the higher end. I don't think it's good bang for your buck. The pizza was great. My wife had a pasta dish, she was not very impressed. The other people had a variety of meals (there was 6 of us). No one was overly impressed with their meals, they were good. One person ordered a Dark and Stormy drink, he got a weak light rum and ginger ale (that's not a dark and stormy). The service was very good except that the salads didn't come out when they should have, our friend had to ask for it after she received her main meal. I personally would not go back. The man playing guitar and singing was a nice touch

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013 via mobile

We went to this restaurant on a whim, we had a very short time to eat as we were trying to catch the observatory before sunset, they were very helpful and got our food ready ASAP, The food was absolutely amazing, we all got pizza and it was to die for! As mentioned previously the service was not only fast but extremely courteous and attentive. We left a big tip:)

“Food worth begging for in Hilo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

This Cafe is great! The food excellent, service friendly and the live music a really enjoyable bonus. The three (3) beer sampler was a fun idea. We stayed five nights in Hilo and ate at Cafe Pesto twice in that time. The only distasteful part of Cafe Pesto was the young fellow sitting on the ground outside the door with a sign saying "I'm hungry". His patter as you leave with a 'Go bag' is "Are you really going to eat that later?" We noticed he had three or four Go Bags beside him as we passed by. So.... even the local beggars eat at Cafe Pesto, now that must be the best recommendation one can get for the quality of the food!

“Yummy, yummy, yummy, we got love in out tummies!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Yummylicious!!! Get a table by the window so you can people watch those strolling by in downtown Hilo. The food is "Ono." Cafe Pesto has a very nice ambience. Save room for dessert & try the Lilikoi Cheescake with a chocolate-chunk cookie crust. OMG!!! If you must have an appetizer, try the Coconut crusted Calamari with the fruity/pepper dipping sauce. Perfecto!!! Did I say the main entrees were great as well?
