“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

My boyfriend and I decided to drive to Hilo from Kona. Our stay was not planed, we came in and called the same day. luckily there was one room available and Steve was absolutely pleasant. Such an amazing place, very clean and has everything you need. Beautiful pool and jacuzzi. ABSOLUTELY Wonderful service, delicious breakdast and beautiful view. I recommend this place to everyone! and whenever I visit Hilo again I will only stay at the orchid tree.

“Great Memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

I stayed at this B&B in 2003 (before I became a Trip advisor). The host was quite gracious and welcoming. The property inviting and near a great bit of the beach. One of THE best parts of the stay was waking up to one of the most healthy and plentiful breakfasts filled with native fruit. It was such a delight! It's nice to read the reviews almost 10 years later and see that the business has expanded and the service continues to be top-notch. Bravo!

“Comfortable place to stay with fabulous breakfasts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

My husband and I stayed four nights at the Orchid Tree. We had the large suite with two beds, I believe one full and one queen. The beds were very comfortable. The suite included a sofa and love seat, a small tv and the ability to choose from three large binders of DVDs. The closet was huge and included a dresser where the drawers were not usable. (They didn't slide on a track, but would fall out) It also had a very small refrigerator which had a moldy gasket. The bathroom was small but functional.. The best part of this place was the fabulous fruit tray breakfast that our host, Steve, prepared each morning. Breakfast was served at 8 AM and included choices of coffee, juices, breads, muffins, jams, cereal, and yogurt. We enjoyed sharing breakfast with another couple staying in the other suite.
I give this place a 4 out of 5 because it had a moldy, musty smell. (Though it might be the humidity of the area) It was lacking a box of tissues, and no iron or ironing board. I also got attacked by mosquitoes so I had to keep the windows closed and the air conditioner on.
Overall, Steve was a good host, providing a great breakfast and supplying suggestions and information about the area. The rooms had an assortment of travel books, brochures, and menus to aid in exploring the island. I would recommend this place to visitors in the Hilo area.

“More Hawaii than you could have possibly expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Our friends who had been to Hawaii several times dismissed the idea of staying in Hilo. But what a mistake that would have been. Our host, Steve, was not only extremely knowledgable and helpful, but acutely sensitive to the history and culture of this beautiful part of the Big Island. And it shows in the way he and Su have built the idyllic new suite in their B&B and the amazing spread of fresh food they put before you each morning. It was a great base from which to explore our too-short stay. A full-hearted mahalo to the Orchid Tree.

“Beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

We stayed for a couple of nights in a well decorated, clean room which was very spacious. The garden and pool area are very nice. Steve was a conscientious host - provided lot of local information and delicious breakfast. The neighborhood is quiet, away from the main city but within an easy 5-10 minutes to get to most places. The blacksand beach nearby is a surfing beach. Very popular. We saw a sea turtle on the beach. There is a nice walk to a nearby waterfall.
