“Old, clean, perfect base camp for Volcano National Park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for three nights in early Feb. Clean, a bit worn out but very nice staff and a perfect location for tours into the Volcano National Park and the south coast of Big Island. We would choose this hotel again.

Stayed February 2013, traveled as a couple

I agree this hotel is dated. The furniture was in sad shape, our room smelled musty and the bedspread was older than I was. The location, however, is excellent the the staff were helpful. Just time for a makeover.

The Hotel is located next to a beautiful park beside water. Littlebit of old fasioned hotel but for the price is good. The restaurant has a buffeet and we were lucky to be seafood on that night. The food was excellent, the waitresses were great. The buffeet came with beer or pop and we just had a sipp of the drink and a moment later they filled the glass up. The rooms were clean with modern tv.The hotel travel agent was very helpful even though she couldn't find us the helicopter tours due to a cruiseship reservation but she called many times to see if there any cancellation.Definetely recomend this place. The hotel has more to offer than the location.

Room Tip: Ocean view always.

This was a terrific hotel to stay at in Hilo. Very comfortable and clean. Great location, too. Not far from the main town area, and plenty of good areas to walk. We love staying there. The staff is great, too!

Room Tip: Stay on the 4th or 5th floor, to avoid smokers on the higher floors.

Rooms are really dated and worn, aircon is quite loud and sound isolation is poor - earplugs during sleeping recommended. Hotel really needs some renovation, hopefully theyll do it because location is good.

I love this hotel. It is so nice to stay in and close to so many things. The room is nice and the bed is so comfortable. Always a warm welcome. I know the coqui frogs are a pset but I like to hear their call and with all the landscaping they must love it there too. Clean comfortable room for a really reasonable price.

Room Tip: You have choices of the Banyon side or the ocean side. Both are fine. Even being on the Banyan side...

This is touted the premier hotel in Hilo. The furniture in the rooms must be 30 years old, photos to follow. Staff could care less about the guests, we checked in late and they acted like we were disturbing them. The rooms are clean, the lobby is nice, but everything else is just down and dated. If there is some event at the hotel, parking for guests is a struggle. Hotel restaurant is over priced and the food is average. Half the washers and dryers in hotel laundry did not work and all machines are on their lastt legs. Place has not been keptt up, guess they don't care how bad the laundry looks. If you have stayed in a nice place on the Kona side, don't expect it in Hilo.

Room Tip: Higher floors keep the sounds of the frogs away. Floors 2,4,6, have ice machines, others have been r...
