“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2010

Not in the centre of town but in the same street as Arnotts Lodge. Not upmarket but clean and comfortable and very good value with everything needed – TV, WiFi, fridge and access to a full kitchen and plenty of breakfast ingredients, generally including something freshly baked and delicious! There is a short walk to the end of the street to the water where there is a view back over Hilo Bay to the town. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating.

We really enjoyed our 3 nights in Hilo. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and we really liked the access to the outdoor kitchen and grill. Breakfast was great each morning and we really enjoyed the biscuits and fried rice. Alan gave us information on how to access the close by beach and was very friendly and personable. Penne also gave us information on traditional Hawaiian summer park activities. The location was great and gave us easy access to downtown, waterfalls, and Volcano Park. The grounds and landscaping are very peaceful and give you a great backdrop when just wanting to relax.

We stayed here because it was a cheap place in Hilo and had great reviews. The owner was very nice and the location was good. Our room was a nice size, but had an odd smell. The breakfast was fine, but not memorable. Overall, it was just an OK place to stay; not really the a B&B experience.

We travelled all over the island and stayed in various B&B, hostels and cabins. This cottage stood out in terms of low price and quality of accommodation. The owners strive to make your stay most pleasant, great hospitality. The very competitive rate includes a breakfast with fresh buns and local fruits. The property has a nice outside area with shaded seating and BBQ area. The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean.

Be aware though that it is located close to the airport, ie. airplane noise can be heard until approx. 10 pm and starting in the morning again.
