“Nice waterfalls”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

Not too far to walk to see them. Not as big as Akaka falls by any means and when we were there, there was no rainbow even though it rained about an hour earlier.

“Nice not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014 via mobile

As with all falls much depends on the amount of rain, weather time of day (morning best), etc. nice falls, very accessible. Take care in the parking lot - one of the higher crime spots (smashed windows to quickly grab cab contents - put things in the trunk or take with you)

“Nice waterfall close to town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

The waterfall is just minutes from Hilo town center. Easy access to the paved overlook, and a trail with handrail up to the river above the falls. You can climb out onto the big rocks in the river above the falls. The sign warned that the water level can change, and judging from the other travelers' photos, that is quite true. There was a single small cascade the day we were there, but it looks more like Niagara Falls in some of the other photos. It was a treat for the 6 year old in our group, who was finally allowed to do some climbing.

“A beautiful waterfall, easily accessible and sometimes a rainbow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

Rainbow falls is a short drive from Hilo town. It is situated right on the roadway so it is very easy to get to. Great if you are pressed for time. If conditions are right a rainbow can be seen. To the left is a short path that leads to the top of the falls where there are pools where you can swim. Although I've seen many people on the edge of the falls, I recommend caution as rocks can be slippery.

“A lovely spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

If you have 15 minutes to spare, make your way to Rainbow Falls! For a quick trip, just head over the lookout and snap some photos. If you have longer, head up the path to check out the HUGE banyan tree. Then follow a footpath up to the pools above the falls--you can swim, play, and explore up there for hours. The further up you go, the fewer people there are.
