My husband and I just got back from our Honeymoon in Hawaii. We spent 7 nights on the Big Island, all 7 spent at the Luana Inn. The beginning of our trip got off to a rocky start when our flight was delayed two hours. We did not arrive in Kona until late at night. Erin and Ken were very understanding and left both of us a plate of food and some drinks in our fridge. This is just one of the many examples of Erin and Ken's acts of kindness and attention to detail.
Breakfast every morning was better than any restaurant we went to on the island. Most of the time we were so full from breakfast that we did not eat until dinnertime. The breakfasts included, eggs, egg dishes (quiches etc.), pancakes with fresh fruit in the batter, the best french toast I have ever had, fresh fruit, portuguese sausage, freshly baked breads (scones, muffins and brioche), and fresh juice and Kona coffee (which is available for purchase).
Our room was clean and comfortable and there was a great air conditioner for the nights if it ever got too hot. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we made it a point to watch as many sunsets as we could. The pool and hot tub were well maintained and a great way to start or end our day. The grounds well beautiful and were only topped by the endless view of the ocean.
My only suggestion for future visitors is to allow yourselves enough time to travel to other sight-seeing destinations. There is usually a lot of traffic on highway 11. We did several activities such as a snorkel cruise, a submarine tour, surfing lessons, massages, etc. and to get to these locations you have to drive to the Kailua-Kona area, approximately 20-25 minutes North. This was our first trip to Hawaii and we wanted to do as much sightseeing as possible, but if we return, we aim for a more relaxing vacation. This Inn is perfect for both!
Eventually we had to leave and it was sad saying goodbye to Erin and Ken. We spent the next three days on Waikiki and our hotel made us miss the Luana in even more.
Overall, the Luana Inn was one of our favorite spots in Hawaii. We highly recommend it to anyone traveling to the area.
