We recently spent 5 nights at the Luana Inn. When we arrived, we had been traveling around the Hawaiian Islands for over 3 weeks and we were tired! We found the Luana Inn to be a wonderful, peaceful oasis to help us relax and enjoy the last 5 days of our vacation.

Erin and Ken really make you feel like you are at home. They are always readily available to answer any questions. When we were there, Erin's parents were also visiting. We had numerous conversations with all of the family and especially enjoyed watching Erin and Ken's young son. He's a real cutie!

Rooms were comfortable. We are early riser and left to snorkel every morning before Breakfast. When we returned, our "take-out" breakfast was always waiting for us in our room. Now that's real service with a smile!.

The location of the Inn in the Captain Cook area couldn't be better. Snorkeling any place in the bay was the BEST we found on any of the islands.

Believe all the great reviews! These guys offer a quality product!

We stayed for the first three nights our honeymoon at Luana Inn. It was one of the best decisions and parts of our trip. We felt the most relaxed and at home compared to the other places we stayed. We even checked out early from another B&B on the Hilo side and were greatful that they opened one of the units that they were using for their own guests for us. The place is located less than a mile from a dock (where you can rent kayaks to go to Captain Cook Monument & snorkle) and several beaches (2 very secluded and the City of Refuge). The property is gated and located away from the road so you rarely heard cars/loud music and we felt very safe there. The hosts stay there the majority of the day, which also is nice if you have a question/need something and adds to the safety factor. We used the BBQ and hot tub nightly. The entire facility was very clean. The hosts are "foodies" for sure...meaning they appreciate good food and take great pride in giving you good food. Almost everything was homemade and there was always a hot dish. We left feeling full every morning. We never wanted to leave early because we did not want to miss breakfast. They would have packed us something delicious to go but the hot dishes were soo good! The coffee (Kona of course) was excellent. They have thought of all the little things to make you feel at home, make the stay enjoyable, and provide things that you normally buy in bulk such as tissues, pen/paper, shampoo & conditioner, laundry detergent, a few spices at the grill, a sharp knife to cook with, a drying rack, and all the beach stuff - towels (big), cooler, boogie boards. They put fresh flowers in the rooms and on the bed. They have compiled info on local restaurants and things to do which was very handy. They also have a computer with internet that was great for helping us plan our daily outings. The host are eco conscience and provide recycling bins and reusable shopping bags. The hosts were wonderful and friendly. We felt like we gained new friends. If you appreciate people who take great pride in their business and want you to have a the best stay with them, this is the place for you. We cannot wait to go back again.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights while on the big island. Ken and Erin were extremely welcoming and by the time we left we felt like we'd made some new friends. We stayed in the Moana room, which I believe is one of the biggest. It has a great ocean view and feels very seperated from the rest of the rooms. The room was very comfortable and huge (by B&B standards). We've stayed in some places that had rooms that could generously be described as rustic. This was nothing of the sort. The bed was a memory foam mattress with comfy pillows. There was a small kitchenette and the bathroom was gigantic.

The breakfast provided was not your typical B&B fare. I've stayed at places where I was greeted in the morning with my choice of two flavors of instant oatmeal and coffee. Not so at the Luana Inn. Either Ken or Erin made breakfast each day and the meals were wonderful. Offerings ranged from Dutch Baby pancakes to egg sandwiches. Kona coffee was provided along with an assortment of fresh fruit each day. By fresh, I mean picked from the grounds around their house, not "freshly" obtained from the local supermarket.

The inn provided a nice launching point for daily activities and we were able to rent snorkeling equipment for our day at two step. Also provided was a local restaraunt guide with reviews of many of the eating establishments in or around Kona. I thought this was great as it is very easy to get caught in a crappy tourist spot when you are unfamiliar with the area. I have to say that the recommendation for Jake's Big Island BBQ was spot on. My wife and I dined here numerous times during our stay, often bringing back the food to eat on the lanai while watching the sun set.

I am hard pressed to say anything negative about the Luana Inn. You might not like it if you are not prepared to have close interaction with other guest (at breakfast for example). Then again, you should probably not be staying at a B&B.

I whole heartedly recommend the Luana Inn to anyone staying in the Captain Cook area of Kona. My wife and I are currently planning our return!

Immaculate, welcoming, serene, stunning, relaxing, quiet, natural and down to earth, fantastic breakfasts, and environmentally sensitive. Ken and Erin have created paradise...a destination in itself. You will want to stay forever.

Ken and Erin were charming hosts, and we enjoyed beautiful breakfasts each day we were there. Their location is perfect- walking distance to the beach, a short paddle to the best snorkelling we found on the 3 hawaiian islands we visited, at Captain Cook's monument. Unbroken views over the bay, and there is the unusual situation of it being in a hot and sunny microclimate, as it's a few hundred metres lower than the main coast road, which could be cool and cloudy as the sun shone on us below! Numerous good restaurants nearby, or the option we chose of BBQing as the sun set over the bay. The room we were in, Moana, was spacious and clean, and there is a large lounge and pool area also. Would recommend it without hesitation! Thanks Liz & Paul
