“Great location in Captain Hook”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Erin and Ken work hard to provide a well run Bed and Breakfast. The rooms are clean and well equipped. They are generous with their time in providing helpful information on sites and restaurants. We enjoyed Ken's freshly baked bread and Erin's lemon scones! Breakfasts always included fresh fruits and were delicious. Thank Erin and Ken!

We travel a lot worldwide, both for pleasure and business. Luana Inn was without any doubt, the perfect place for our small family of three. The location is just perfect, with stunning views from the rooms, from the dining-room, and from the pool-barbecue area. The small community of Captain Cook and Luana Inn are nestled in the very best location we may have dreamt off, in a very quiet and beautiful area, secluded and private with gorgeous views and environment, but still within reach of the Kona area. Luana Inn is nearby one of the most wonderful naural parks in Hawaii: Honaunau, which we repetedly visited, The amenities at Luana Inn were exactly as described in Luana Inn's website and being from a more modest income country (Costa Rica), we worried a lot about prices in general in Hawaii. Luana Inn offers really beautiful and spacious facilities for a very affordable price. The owners, Ken, Erin and their two lovely sons were just the perfect hosts: friendly, knowladgable and helpful but also allowing guests to enjoy themselves in all the tranquility that the site offers. We particularly enjoyed their amazing breakfasts, prepared by themselves, every day different, and allowing guests to gather around a cup of coffee and share experience in a very friendly way. We won't forget the spectacular sunsets and our delicious barbecue at the pool. There is absolutely no doubt that we will stay again at Luana Inn the next time we visit the Big Island. The only difference is that we will spend more time at Luana Inn! We strongly recomend Luana Inn very warmly as the best option in the whole Kona area.

We stayed 4 nights in this beautiful spot 40min (by car) south of Kona airport. The rooms are well equipped, spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Ken and Erin were great hosts, giving advice on local attractions and the breakfast on the balcony, with overview of the ocean (including wales) was a daily highlight. Highly recommended.

Our children gave us a trip to the Hawaii, including an eight nights stay at the Luana Inn for our 30th wedding anniversary - and what a wonderful time we had!

The Luana Inn is located on a sunny and beautifully landscaped property on a hillside overlooking Kealakekua Bay. Our room, the Mahina, was spacious, clean and comfortable. It faced the lanai with its hot tub and pool and had a panoramic view of the ocean. And the sunsets from our room - and the hot tub! - were nothing short of amazing.

What made our stay so truly memorable, however, were our hosts, Ken and Erin. They live on the property and are therefore always accessible, but they do a perfect job of being friendly, welcoming and helpful without ever intruding on your privacy. They are very knowledgable of the island, and they gave us some great tips on what to see and do during your stay on the island.

They also do their best to make you feel at home. You can borrow just about anything you might need for a fun day at the beach, like beach towels, boogie boards and even reef shoes! There is a BBQ grill on the lanai, and Ken will bring you a hotplate and pots and pans if you wish to cook in your room. They also have a microwave, and washing machine and dryer available for guest use. The lobby has some nice books and games.

And of course, then there is breakfast! Like other reviewers have previously noted, Ken and Erin really put time and effort into making your food. Breakfasts are always plentiful, featuring several delicious options that change every day - we got to enjoy popovers, mini quiches and frittatas fresh hot out of the oven, home-made muffins and breads, fresh, locally grown fruit and of course, Erin's special home-made granola! The freshly brewed Kona coffee was superb too. Ken and Erin also do their very best to accommodate their guests special dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free etc). They do it happily, and they do it well!

So all we can say is thank you, Erin and Ken! We really enjoyed our stay with you, and hope to return again soon. For us, the Luana Inn was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the real beauty of the Big Island without traffic and crowds.

This is a beautiful, well maintained property and the owners, Ken and Erin are warm, gracious and extremely helpful. The breakfasts they cook are delicious--with fresh Hawaiian fruit each morning-- and they go the extra step to make sure their guests have a wonderful experience. My husband told them he didn't eat pork and they prepared chicken sausage especiaily for him every morning. We stayed 4 nights and can't wait to return! Our room faced the pool but it was peaceful, quiet and the view was beautiful. It was next to the washing machine/ dryer available for guests' use, an extra treat since we had just come from Hana on Mauii with lots of wet, muddy clothes! The other plus is that you can walk down to the beautiful beach where the snorkeling (using the equipment they rented to us at a very reasonable price) was fantastic.

We stayed for 4 nights with our 4 year old son. Erin and Ken are fantastic hosts and we spent a lot of time around the accommodation both during the day and evening. The breakfasts are amazing and varied as both the hosts take turns at preparing every other day. They are also very accommodating to different needs (children and vegetarians well catered for). They provide equipment for beach use free of charge and the local beach is only a short drive or walk down the hill, as is the launch point for Kayak's to Captain Cook. Access to Two Steps is also only 5 miles away along the coast road. I would highly recommend staying here if you have young children and you want to relax and play with the kids - the grounds are large and great for little one to run off some energy. The accommodations are very good, and great value for money.

Room Tip: The two smaller units are right next to the pool with the two larger units behind the main house in...

We (2 adults, 2 kids under 5) stayed at Luana Inn in September for 3 nights and had a wonderful time.
Erin and Ken are wonderful hosts, very helpful with local knowledge, nothing is too much trouble and breakfasts are magnificent.
The only problem was departing, we felt we were saying goodbye to good friends and our daughter actually asked if she could stay while we continued on. That's an indication of how at home Erin & Ken made us feel during our stay.
We hope one day to return.
