My husband had been in the mood for pizza, on a recommendation from our innkeepers we headed to Patz Pies. The innkeepers said that Patz Pies uses fresh vegetables from the island, the sauce is homemade and the pizza crust is whole wheat.
When we arrived, we merely saw a sign for the name of the place. Patz Pies is take out only, with a outdoor table for two, the restaurant is literally a hole-in-the-wall. Arriving at the window, we were greeted by the owner, Pat. He was ever so enthusiastic and pleasant. The menu is a paper sign posted on the side of the restaurant, it lists the type of sauces (marinara, alfredo & pesto) and countless toppings (Pat says he makes the sausage himself!).
Pat was incredibly helpful, suggesting toppings to the alfredo sauce I chose (we ended up with; alfredo sauce with spinach, mushrooms, and roasted garlic). After ordering, Pat began to put our pizza into work right away. While waiting we saw countless number of locals stopping to pick up pizzas, and they all knew each other by name.
We must have waited only 10 minutes, and Pat handed my husband what must have been an 20 " box, it contained such aroma, our mouths were watering! We thanked Pat - you could tell he really appreciated your business, and headed back to our B&B. We couldn't wait to devour it, as soon as the first bite hit our mouths, every one of our taste buds seem to come to live. The crust is not too doughy, but not thin either. My husband being the meat-tarian that he is ordered marinara sauce with pepperoni, ham and pineapple. My husband said the meat fresh, the ham was not rubbery and the pepperoni was not salty, like the pizzas from pizza chains.
We savored every last bight. It was so delicious, we had to go back 2 days later. It was the most amazing pizza we have ever tasted. Patz Pies is delicious, the owner is a character and the pies are fresh. We couldn't have asked for a better pizza.
