“Absolutely Terrific”

Lee and Svetlana are welcoming, warm and informative hosts. Svetlana's breakfasts are delicious and varied. I'm not one for breakfast conversations with strangers, but the breakfast discussions with people from all over the world changed that. Well worth the bumpy ride up to this lovely property.

Room Tip: Our room was the Halawai Room. Beautiful view of the coast and ocean, comfortable 4 poster bed, glas...

Lee and Svetlana and their Aloha Guest House are, quite simply, wonderful.
Despite our late arrival at The House, Lee greeted us with an outstretched hand and a great big smile … a warm welcome to what became our home for the next week. The location, south of Kona, is very convenient to all of the sights along the west coast of the island. This is element is important to us because we tend to cover a lot of territory and visit a lot of sights on our trips. [Note: We moved over to a place on the east side of the island to be nearer the volcanoes for a couple of nights, but wished we had stayed at The House the entire time. The excursions to the volcanoes are not too far from The House to make them simple day trips.] Although the climb up the hill from the highway to The House is a bit rough (Lee will suggest a 4WD … trust him on that), you will be rewarded with outstanding views of the ocean and coastline. Their grounds are beautiful, with the requisite tropical flowers and fruits in abundance (the oranges are indescribably sweet). Everything about our room was comfortable, including the lanai (I thought I’d just throw in a little Hawaiian lingo there). Each morning we were greeted with a tasty, mouth-watering, hot, cooked breakfast prepared by Svetlana, which was always accompanied by fresh fruits. She claims that she’s not a chef, but her breakfast creations were marvelous … what a great way to start our days.
BUT, all that stuff isn’t the best part of The House … Lee and Svetlana are extraordinary hosts. In the few days that we visited with them, we became friends. But then, I know that everyone that spends time with them will become friends. They are nice, gracious, fun and funny, yet very accommodating.

This bed and breakfast is fantastic! The road is very bumpy, but not a problem with an SUV. The kids thought the road made the B and B even better! The owners of the bed and breakfast are awesome. Lee took us on a tour of their property and let us try the nuts and fruits right from the trees. The rooms were very clean as well as the public rooms. Views are fantastic - something nice about seeing the ocean from your bed (especially when you live in the prairies)! We used the boogie boards and the ice chests that are avaliable for guests use. This is an awesome place and we would stay again.

We booked 3 rooms for an adult family of 7 and had a great stay at this lovely guest house. Beautifully decorated with shared spaces for relaxing, it is a quiet and peaceful setting for relaxing and recharging. The breakfasts were delicious and a very pleasant way to start the day. Views from all areas were fabulous! Try to arrive by daylight as the road is initially a challenge, but worth it. Overall a great place for lovers of nature and those wanting peace and quiet.

My wife and I just came back from our honeymoon vacations in Hawaii. The two most memorable experience are how perfect this B&B is, and how sad when we left after staying there for 3 nights. It is very hard for me to feel like home in hotels or B&B, but staying in Aloha Guest House is an exception.

The bed is so comfortable. By just lying in your bed, you can see the ocean in the daytime, and stars/moon at night. Since it is not close to the highway, it is very quiet. The new owner (Lee and Svetlana), who just took over this place, are extremely friendly and sincere. If you like this place based on the previous reviews/photos, you will find additional value added by them. After I saw the old pictures, I realized that Lee and Svetlana make this place modern and provide much better food with organic ingredients. They have a pro-level Yamaha digital piano, new futon/sofa, new tableware, and plan to replace carpet with wood floor in the living room. Their dog, Gina, is so adorable and friendly. If you can play piano, play moonlight (Debussy's or Beethoven's) in the evening when you can see the moon reflected in the ocean.

You can enjoy 100% Kona coffee anytime from their espresso coffee machine, borrow snorkeling gear for free to the captain cook or Honaunau Bay (Two-steps), or pick your own fruit in their garden, where we found HUGE and juicy oranges in December. After we arrived, they put beautiful fresh flowers in our room, taught us how to use their kitchen with drinking water and how to get coffee from their coffee machine. We booked two different rooms due to the budget, but they even upgraded the room for us for free, so there we can stay in the oceanview room for 3 consecutive nights. I mean, you cannot expect the exactly same thing, but similar services make you feel like at home. I believe they are doing the best they can to make the guests enjoy their life. They said, they like ducks: calm above the water, and paddling like hell underneath.

If you plan to go to the Big Island, staying in this B&B with luxury bedrooms and amazing breakfast in the front of breathtaking views will redefining your vacation experience.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at the Aloha Guest House and everything that kendallgayle mentions below is true. The new owners Lee and Svedlana are wonderful hosts, the views are absolutely stunning and if you are in search of a quiet place to enjoy nature, this is your place.

The only reason I don´t give excellent 5 stars is because we booked the B&B in the believe that it would also have an outdoor Jacuzzi. There was once a whirlpool, but it was not working when we were there. We would´ve appreciated if someone had told us in advance, especially because we realized that the very informative brochure in the room and the website were not up-to-date. (it looks like on the website it has been corrected)

We stayed in the Kohola-room with the absolutely breathtaking ocean view. If we could have stayed longer, we had done that! We really enjoyed the quiet location and the new owners hospitality and recommendations.

We (an adult family of 5) just returned from 3 nights at the Aloha Guest House and LOVED our stay. Yes, the road up is bumpy, and 4-wheel drive is highly recommended. But, once you find your way, the drive adds to the adventure of your stay, and keeps the area quiet. By day two, the 7-minute drive passed quickly.

There are new owners of the B&B, and they were just wonderful. They made sure we felt comfortable and took the time to chat, eat breakfast with us, and show us around the place. The breakfasts were delicious (who knew gluten-free carrot muffins could be so tasty?), and the views from our rooms and the lanai were stunning. We were truly happy to spend a few hours each day just soaking them in and enjoying the peace and quiet of this mountaintop abode.

We all felt the rooms were very comfortable and had every amenity we needed - beach towels, shampoo/conditioner/lotion from dispensers, a carafe of water, space for the luggage, and more. But, what I loved most was their efforts to become almost self-sustaining. They compost, recycle, serve healthy, organic food, heat their water with solar panels, and so much more. The other guests we met there were great, and it made for a perfect way to end our trip in Hawai'i.

If you want to be in the center of the "action" (shops, restaurants, beaches, etc.), this might not be the place for you. But, if you are looking for a unique, memorable experience that allows you to enjoy the best parts of Hawai'i (eating off the land, reveling in its beauty, and embracing the Aloha spirit), this Guest House is not to be missed.
