“Relaxing On The Big Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We decided to spend 4 days on the Big Island during our 10 day holiday trip through Hawaii and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed a mixture of relaxing and mid-pace adventure roaming all over the Big Island. What made it so nice was our decision to stay at Areca Palms B&B in the Captain Cook area. Steve and Janice were exceptional hosts and their B&B was everything we hoped it would be. The overall property is beautiful, our room was clean and we felt comfortable during our entire visit. Both Steve and Janice supplied us with great advice with respect to getting around the island and what points of interest to visit. They loaned snorkeling and beach gear and told us of a quiet small beach we could visit which turned out to be really nice. Breakfast was fantastic and a good start to our day and also a time to reflect and discuss our adventures with other guests...all in all, a nice setting with good people in a beautiful location.

Another nice feature to this B&B is location. Even though it is situated slightly south, the location felt centralized as we were able to get to all POI on the island in good time. We loved the location and being able to see everything we planned to see. When you add up the beauty of the B&B, the exceptional hosts, the cleanliness of our room, fantastic breakfast, the location and the relaxing nature of the area, the result is more than 5 Stars!

We will strongly recommend Areca Palms B&B to all of our friends should they ever venture out to the Big Island of Hawaii and would stay there again should we get back there. Our trip was quite a success and we thank Areca Palms B&B for helping. Janice and Steve, thanks for everything!

We stayed with Janice and Steve twice while visiting Hawaii. We travelled all the way around the Island and liked Areca Palms so much that we stayed with them again when we completed the loop. We stayed at a lot of places while touring around and Areca Palms was by far the best. The house and grounds are beautiful and the food was wonderful. The best meals we had during our stay. Janice and Steve made us feel like welcome friends. They have a wealth of information about the Island and what to do and where to go. Everything they recommended was spot on. Can't say enough nice things about this place or about Janice and Steve.

Aloha to our Canadien guests. We hope you found your animals at Kangaroo Creek Farm warm and cozy on your return. We can only imagine the excitement you bring to all of those children that visit your farm. It was a lot of fun having you here and we really enjoyed learning about your animals. Hope to visit next time we are in the Kelowna area of B.C..

The family decided to stay away from the typical resorts we frequent on our annual trip the Hawaii and selected Areca Palms Bed and Breakfast based on its reviews. Once we arrived we were greeted by the owners and shown to our beautiful clean rooms. We were famished from the travel day and asked for a local restaurant they could recommend. Steve let us know about a couple and we wound up sitting on a lanai on the water in Kona. Beautiful evening with great food.

Next day we wanted to snorkel and Captain Cook Monument was recommended. Best snorkeling I've ever encountered, including time spent in the Caribbean. The innkeepers loan snorkel gear and let you know which kayak rentals are the best.

We recommend Areca Palms B&B for anyone with the desire for a slow paced Hawaiian vacation away from the resorts. Aloha.

My friends and I decided to stay at Areca Palns Estate B&B during our recent stay on the Big Island. I wasn't disappointed upon arrival as the grounds and rooms were clean and tidy.

Steve and Janice, owners, assisted my friends and I by providing local events and attractions information at the time of our stay. There is great snorkeling nearby, and many different places to visit using Areca Palms Estate B&B as a home base to get out and explore.

After our daytrip adventures we sat out on the lanai and shared our experiences with the other guest who were also staying which made good conversaiton.

Breakfast was delicious to get the day started, and I did not leave hungry!

Overall a very relaxing time and I would definately recommend Areca Palms Estate Bed and Breakfast if you are planning to visit the Big Island of Hawaii!

Room Tip: I stayed in the Garden Room and it was quiet.

We picked this place for location on the Big Island, close to good snorkeling for beginners at Two Step and also not too far a drive from Volcanoes National Park. Steve and Janice are two extremely knowledgeable and friendly people. The breakfasts are fantastic, great quality and variety of food, wonderful flavor, and the portions are big enough to get you started on your day without feeling stuffed. Great fruit plate every morning, wonderful juices and hot beverages, and the main breakfast course was to die for! Pancakes, waffles, homemade muffins and coconut syrup. My wife and I were in heaven!

The rooms were immaculate, comfortable, and very affordable. The entire house and grounds are spectacular - very well cared for and attractive. Their free snorkeling equipment is in good condition and great for those unsure how much they will like snorkeling. Take Steve's advice on the snorkeling -- he's obviously guided many a novice into a great adventure at Two Step.

Janice and Steve have great day trip planners ready for you at the house. They are good enough that if you have lost your tour book, you won't miss it. If you have a good tour book, their day-trip planners are a great suppliment. Janice and Steve really know the islands and gave us some great tips for other islands as well.

One real treasure is the other guests that come to Areca Palms. Steve and Janice get a lot of repeat customers (we hope to be in that category soon). But the other guests also have a lot to share, and breakfast conversation about things to see and do is a real bonus.

Areca Palms is an incredible value for travelers. The food and accomodations are top notch, and if you like meeting people and having a very nice breakfast with other great folks, you absolutely cannot do better than Areca Palms.

Jane and Matt from Arkansas send their best to Steve and Janice, and we the readers go to Areca Palms -- you'll love it there!

Room Tip: We stayedi in the Blue Willow and Garden Room. The Blue Willow room's bath is just across the h...

We stayed 2 nights at Areca Palm B&B and had a great stay.
The house and garden are beautiful, very quiet, and the outside living room is a pleasant place to rest or just read a book. The room and bathroom were very clean and you have all you need.
Breakfast was very good (especially the breads!) and we even got great recipes from Janice.

Also, the B&B is ideally situated : close to Kona, Kehalakekua bay, lots of restaurants (try the wonderful Italian "Mi's" at 5 minutes from the house!)

I would definitely recommend to stay there!
