We found this to be a very cozy and unassuming place. We especially liked it since it was away from downtown Jackson - about a 10 minute drive in what is primarily a residential area. Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. We didn't get a chance to see all of the rooms - I think there are 5, but ours had a very comfortable bed (not too soft) a television, air conditioning which we didn't need (there was actually a snow flurry while we were there in early June!), spacious private bathroom and the world's friendliest dog. Craig and Natalia went out of their way to make our visit relaxing and comfortable with lots of local recommendations for restaurants, drives and things to do. As long as you're not expecting a fancy resort but a relaxed base to explore the area you'll probably be satisfied. And there is also a small spa treatment area where those so inclined can schedule facials, massages, etc. plus an outdoor jacuzzi with lovely views. P.S. Try Nora's restaurant in nearby Wilson for really good food. We had two great meals there.

We took advantage of the excellent bargain to "Rent the Inn" for the February President's week in '08 for our group of 6 adults and 4 kids. Yes, the innkeeper was not there when we arrived (so what,- this is not a hotel), but he left a note to make ourselves at home--and the minute we stepped in we felt that we belonged there. Warm, cozy, well layed out, attractive bedrooms, the world's most loving resident dog and a very engaging inkeeper who, at least in the winter, makes the breakfast himself and stimulates the morning conversation to a level equal or above the better public affairs news commentators.
The Sassy is well positioned about half way between Teton Village and downtown Jackson (and don't overlook downtown Wilson just 3 miles away).
We've skied at least 5 major resorts over President's Week and never found more comfortable or charming lodgings. Just glad we wern't there with some of those writing negative reviews.

  • Liked — It had a real personality
  • Disliked — Had to wait 5 minutes for morning orange juice

Seattle area

We were drawn in by the website. It is not as represented.
The room was below "Hunting Lodge" standards, certainly not up to typical B&B expectations or even as it is shown in the photos on their website. The outside was a mess, the "spa tub" was filthy, out in the open and unusable. Trash littered around the yard. Not at all as presented on their site.
The owner was not there when we arrived, the room was open. The owner arrived only after being called several times. The "stove" was inoperative, the ceiling fan missing. The room was cold. The bathroom was not clean. There was only one set of towels and a single small bar of soap for two guests. When the owner arrived, he flew into a rage when we expressed our disappointment with what we saw. His large black dog decided to make the room home.
He went off on a tangent about starving children in Somalia and his family trying to make a living and about how us "wealthy folks" didn't care about real problems. Then said we could stay for free; he wouldn't charge us. We discussed staying at a reduced rate between ourselves but declined and said we would take our chances elsewhere. He emphatically promised that he would not charge us, put it in writing and signed it . Then turned around and charged our credit card anyway. We are now preparing to take him to court.

  • Liked — Location as advertised and accomodations as portrayed.
  • Disliked — Not as advertised, poor service, bad attitude of owner, breech of promise on not charging us. We did not stay there, we left after being assured in writing that we would not be charged.

I would strongly discourage anyone from staying here.

My family and I had to cancel a stay due to my father's death. I was aware of the no refund policy but wrote and asked for reconsideration due to the difficult circumstances. I was told that they likely could rebook the room and not charge us and that I should check back later. I never heard from them again, other then to see a charge appear on my credit card. Many emails were left unanswered, and no messages were returned.

Overall, I would at least like the courtesy of a reply to my calls and emails, and frankly I think most businesses would make an exception in the cancellation policy for a death in a family. I will not ever rebook at the Sassy Moose and hope others find this feedback helpful.

We've had a fantastic 5-night stay at Sassy Moose. We've really appreciated the laid back and relaxed atmosphere. Having been out hiking most days it's been great to come back to a very homely environment. Craig was a genial host and provided us with some useful tips as to where to go hiking, good places to eat etc. Substantial breakfasts and interesting conversations with other guests set us up for the day. I think some of the other comments about Sassy Moose are unreasonable. As visitors to Wyoming from England, Sassy Moose provided us with everything we needed. I'd definitely recommend it to my fellow countrymen! Perhaps some people expect too much?

Nick & Dave
