“Good for the area but could use some improvement”

We recently stayed for a family reunion. The front desk staff were very nice and I felt that for the area, it was very good value. The only negatives were that the room was very stuffy (you could not open the window up and the a/c was not putting out fresh air and the beds in the main lodge were very uncomfortable as were the pillows - definitely needs new mattresses and pillows. Other than that, the food was reasonably good and well priced and I liked the "old feel" of the place.

Okay, this "spa" is fairly old, dating at least to the early '50's but it remains charming and an out-of-the way kind of place to stay when hanging around the Snowy Range. I have been here twice in the last 6-7 years and ownership seems to have changed as has the town of Saratoga - both seem to be more yuppified than my first visit. That isn't a completely bad thing; costs rise, sure, but usually standards do too.

My Salt Lake based sisters and I were looking for a place halfway between there and my home in Colorado Springs for a birthday trip when Sunset magazine did a profile of Saratoga WY. Five hours from both places was perfect and we were charmed by photos of roaring fires and hot springs. The Resort did not disappoint! The staff was great and the place was super charming. For all of those who say it's outdated, I'm not sure what they were expecting. It's a hotel in the middle of the wilderness for crying out loud-I thought the decor was just what I was hoping for in a rustic location. The grounds are well tended and the food was terrific. The hot pools were so relaxing and the big mineral pool was perfect for cooling off. I can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Stay in one of the rooms off the courtyard if you want to have easy access to the springs.

Stayed years ago with my daughter and we probably broke the record for relaxing at the pool from 10 am to 7 pm. Still the perfect combination of hot spring pools. New was the wonderful Micro-Brewery with sampler paddles. Had fun in the bar every night and enjoyed the food. I love this place and love that it is an older lodge. Noticed the fun new cabinetry in the rooms and décor. I work in the lodge industry in South Dakota and noticed the unkind reviews are usually the people who want a free room or they will post a bad review. We are threatened the same way all the time lately. They USE Tripadvisor as a threatening tool. This is a wonderful hot springs getaway with so much too offer.

Spent the weekend here with my husband and two young children, and the outstanding customer service of the resort and the friendliness of the staff really made this trip a fun and memorable one! We will definitely return. I took away one star because the rooms were a little outdated, but the rooms were very clean and neat, and also their food and drinks at the resort were excellent.

Although the resort is well located & the setting beautiful the rooms were terribly dated (and not in the cute-old fashioned way) & way over-priced. We were quoted a price and upon check out the price was $40 higher than the already high price because they charge extra for roll-away (but don't tell you upfront). We will look elsewhere next visit.

Four years ago in August we happened on the Saratoga Spa & Resort while on a road trip through Wyoming. At the time the hotel was nearly empty and was clearly rundown but even then we saw the potential with natural hot springs, restaurant and microbrewery on site. Four years later on our return visit in late May 2014 for a three day stay we weren't disappointed. The food at the restaurant is second to none in Saratoga and the microbrewery beer is a real hidden gem and I consider myself somewhat of a micro-brewery expert. The hotel retains its rustic charm which we appreciated and the staff is vastly improved, friendly and professional. The emphasis on upkeep and maintenance is quite evident throughout now. The mineral spring pools and spas were all clean and well maintained. For three days we hiked the local Snowy Range in search of trout but the snow melt and rain had the rivers and streams running too fast. In the end we discovered the best trout fishing was right in our own back yard at the catch and release trout ponds at the hotel. It capped off a very nice stay!

Room Tip: Mule deer were grazing right outside our hotel window!
