“Price is just too high for what you get”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2009

We are full timers who travel for work. We do not generally like to stay at a KOA because they are overly priced for our needs. This one is no different in being over priced but what is different is the quality. We spent our first week up front where most of the Rvers are either vacationing or just passing through. There was a different rv parked next to us every night. On the 5th night, we moved to the long term area more suited to our needs. We don't use provided shower houses, laundry or restrooms because we have all of that in our fifth wheel so I cannot attest to the conditions of these but I can say that the long term area (in back) takes up at least half of the rv park and you have peoples reasons for being there mixing which feels off. The only things I have to complain about are: The price for long term...600.00 for one month PLUS they charge you an additional $200.00 deposit. They are charging us for our electric on top of that price. The deposit is returned to you as long as you pay your electric bill. Number 2 gripe: The parking is cramped for us in long term. We have to have one vehicle behind the other which is just a hassle to have my husband move his truck so I can get out. I end up taking his truck which I am not crazy about. Number 3 gripe: The pool? This is beyond their control, in that it is currently nearing the end of June and it isn't even open yet because it's still too cool of weather averaging at about 70 degrees every day but you are paying for the pool too, which brings me back to my main gripe: the price. It needs to be lowered. Most KOA's are priced high but you at least feel like you are getting what you pay for. Since we do this for a living we are not "splurging" on a vacation, nor are we retired and ready for luxury only. (Not saying all feel this way) we like to save money. By the way, while we were here they now have changed their name to Rock Springs RV Park....their name changed but guess what didn't? Yah, you are still paying KOA prices. Also just for comparison our usual monthly stay at most places costs between 350.00 and 450.00 a month. It is what we are used to paying for what we do and have never been charged extra for electric or water. I'm not cheap but we aren't using anything but a spot....what could we possible tear up? We don't have much of a choice where we stay here in Rock Springs so we are here. Staff is friendly and the place is kept clean. Depending on your needs, decide for yourself.

Where do we start?

We have enjoyed of the KOA experience. We like them in general until we found this one.

1. We called up to reserve, and they put us on hold due another customer's call. They forgot we were on the line.
2. We made it there and talked to the recepcionist, she didn't have a clue about the sites.
3. We were given a tent site.
4. We found the "Tent Site". There was no picnic table, no fire pit, just dirt and not even a leveled dirt. It was just a bunch of weeds with a tent on it. As it turns out, we were expected to share this "dirt" with three other campers, and they charged 25 dls for this.
5. We went to complain and it was already closed.
6. We went look for another room in town, the cheapest one we found it was a motel 8 (not a super 8, not a motel 6, A MOTEL 8) and they wanted $89 p/night. We felt miserable, tired and hungry trying to find a decent place to spend the night, we couldn't so we returned to the campsite since we paid.
7. We found one of the campers went to complain at the office too, he waited, and waited and waited and waited. No answers.
8. KOA is right next to the highway, so expect noise and a great view of giant tanks of something.
9. We left as the sun shone.
10. The best place to stay in rock springs is yes! The Walmart parking lot!

At least, you get what you pay for.

I would recommend this KOA to anyone I don't like.

The young woman who was minding the store on the night we checked in was wonderful, but

At 4 a.m. we were rudely awakened by bugs crawling all over us. We caught a few, and, being an infection control nurse, I identified them as bedbugs. We hauled everything we had brought into the kamping kabin down to the laundromat and washed and dried for 3 hours in hot washer and drier until some of our things were ruined for good.

When the manager arrived at 8 a.m. we showed him the bugs and the laundry, and he at last agreed to refund our money. I checked my credit card a few days later, and indeed he had recredited the amount. BUT WHEN I GOT MY BILL AT THE END OF THE MONTH, HE HAD RECHARGED MY CARD AGAIN!!

We had put everything into plastic bags under quarantine, so had to cancel the rest of our trip and drive straight home -- which was a 12-hour trip without stopping except to refuel.

DON'T STAY HERE!

  • Liked — The young woman minding the store was very nice.
  • Disliked — The manager charged my credit card without authorization after refunding the price of the room in the first place because there were bedbugs.

Nothing between your site and the neighboring site except rock and the sewer trap. Sites so close you can reach out and touch the RV next to you. So many sites just packed in on top of each other. Rock, dust and construction noise. All yours for $39.00 a night. Horrible RV Park. How KOA lets them use their name?

Rock Springs KOA campground is located directly behind a Conoco holding tank area (large round tanks that hold oil). The entire KOA is covered with gravel rock; no quietly walking past anyone's site to get to the restrooms in the middle of the night. The showers were clean except for the mat on the floor (women's bathroom). The men's restroom/shower was not a place my husband and boys wanted to spend much time in. The RRs were not filthy, just not as clean as they could've been. The host-front desk help somehow messed up the amount of our bill and had to re-do the bill (no big deal). When asked about pool hours the front desk apparently hadn't read the signs that we discovered near the pool (what they told us and what the sign said didn't match up). They did have a cafe area (we didn't use it) where they sold coffee. The cafe looked clean and presentable. The cabin we stayed in (mid-June 2006) was okay. It had a fan and a heater. A picinic table was just outside the front door along with a porch swing. The trees in the campground were probably 6 feet tall and gave no shade. If you like scrub brush, and the feeling of being in an industrial area, this is the place to be.
