“Like the Old West Hotels with the Modern Comforts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

This little gem sits just minutes from the South entrance to Teton National Park. We all wished we had more time to spend at the Hatchet. The room was very clean and spacious and the bathroom was particularly well fitted out for our comfort...the shower was spotless, modern and with plenty of hot water for all. The rates were very reasonable for the location and the staff was very honest and straightforward in describing the room and taking our reservation over the phone. The Resort was quiet, even though it sat just off the main road to the Park and Dubois. We will re-book at the Hatchet without hesitation and use the resort as a base for hiking in the nearby mountains on future trips to the area. Nice place away from the hustle and bustle of Jackson and the Park, yet with easy access to both. We were absolutely delighted to find this peaceful, clean and easy in/out resort in the high country.

Staff was not helpful in giving directions over the phone, and did not warn us that this was so far outside of Jackson, nor that no one is available at the front desk after 10 pm to help you if you get lost and call. I didn't get into Jackson until about 1am after a long drive from Nevada, and couldn't get hold of anyone, so we stayed in another place. No return phone calls. I do a lot of traveling, and this was very unprofessional.
The booking service and I both tried asking the Hotel Manager Pat for a refund, but they seem to be more interested in milking every penny they can rather than having any pity on people traveling from out of town.
I never stayed there so I hope it is worth it. I never write bad reviews - but then I've never been this stonewalled by a business that must be raking in money based on the rates they are charging. I normally like to try independent hotels like this even if I pay a little more, but this makes me want to stick with the chains.

Not only at 6:30p was my room not ready, but the room was filthy, the staff rude, and the owner cocky as to the quality of "resort". It was not worth the money nor was it relaxing. There is no way I would recommend this to my enemy.

My husband and 2 daughters, ages 6 & 4 found the Hatchet resort irresistible after our first night's stay in one of the suites. It truly was a destination for relaxation. It's located between Jackson Hole and Yellowstone, making it easy to play all day at one location, rest up, then play more at the other attraction. Our overnight's stay at the Hatchet afforded us a luxurious bathroom w/ a jetted tub and a standing shower, comfe beds for all, internet connection and a large grassy play area with a gazebo and swing set. We were most impressed by the hospitable staff, the unique gift shop, the whetstone conference center, the delicious restaurant and fabulously friendly cook AND the "on-location" gas station. My husband prefers to hotel camp vs. outdoor camp and I prefer the reverse. I had to drag him away from this resort. He and our girls were begging to stay another day. We thoroughly enjoyed this family vacation in the beauty of the nature around us, away from city life. Yes, we'll be repeating this stay, remembering our mosquito spray! Thanks Hatchet Staff.

Room Tip: Never hurts to request the best room they have available.

We stayed 4 nights last week, in one of their "B" suites The pros: 1. Our room was clean. 2. Our shower was new (and nice and hot). 3. Our bed was comfortable. The cons: 1. The price. It really is a motel, not a resort. 2. The walls are thin. We could clearly hear the people in the suite attached to ours. There was a large space under the adjoining door. 3. There were lots of mosquitos (but that was everywhere, not just Moran). 4. The hottub was unoperational our entire visit.
We were quite disappointed when we drove up to Hatchett, as we expected a bit more for $220 a night. We would not stay there again for that price.

Location on map incorrect. 8 miles toward Cody not toward Yellowstone. Room not ready at 6:00. Had to be vacuumed. Skimpy towels and very expensive. Will not stay here again.

We stayed here for two nights. Clean, cozy, and a little rustic. The staff tried to be helpful when we called from Idaho wanting to get the best route to Moran from where we were (without our GPS), but all they had was a dial-up internet connection. That sort of tells you what level of 'resort' this is. Friendly, but really just a motel. Our room was a little small and dark. The bathroom was very small. But everything was clean and well-maintained. The restaurant had the basic meat-and-potatoes options for breakfast, but no fresh fruit, which was a big disappointment for my daughter.
My largest complaint is that we were 45 minutes from the town of Jackson, which is sort of the center of activity for the area. On the plus side, it is closer to Jackson Lake.
Overall, it seemed a little pricey for what we got.
