“Best Location in the Tetons!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

We were 3 couples (all over 65) here for kayaking, hiking, and biking in Sept/Oct. Over the past 20 years or so we've racked up well over 50 nights in GTNP . . . most of them at Signal Mountain . . . and the lodge's proximity to launch sites and trailheads has always been the main draw. Cabins are clean and reasonably commodious with comfortable beds and good heating. Walls are a bit thin, so you can hear plumbing noise (especially showers) and the murmur of conversation from adjoining units, The very good on-site restaurants, gas station, and camp store add to the location's convenience. All staff that we encountered at registration, in the store and shops and in the restaurants was not only courteous, competent, and cheerful but also knowledgeable about park activities and locations. And If you come knowing that the operant word in describing SML is "rustic" or, maybe "upscale rustic" (this isn't the Ritz Carlton or even the Hampton Inn), then you won't be disappointed. Of course, like all facilities in GTNP, the views are breathtaking.

Here are a few things about the lodge that you may not find in their literature:

WiFi is available in the main lodge along with two computers, a pair of printers, and a large screen TV.

Hairdryers are either in the rooms or available at the front desk.

If you don't like your soap/shampoo from a gel dispenser, bring your own.

There is an on-site do-it-yourself laundry facility.

WE HAVE NEVER SEEN A TOUR BUS AT SIGNAL MOUNTAIN LODGE!

Room Tip: Reserve well in advance! That's especially true for June-July-August.

Stunning views, a waterfront location deep in the heart of the Tetons. Signal mountain lodge is a series of rustic styled cabins set in trees on the shores of Jackson Lake with far reaching views across to the Grand Teton range. It’s a small quiet resort, full of charm and character, with a shop, gas station and several good quality restaurants on site. It’s a good central location for exploring the park with most attractions not too far away, 20 mins to Jenny lake area and 40 mins to Moose; you’re next to Signal Mountain and not far from the Snake River and the overlooks. We stayed for 2 nights in a Lower Lakefront retreat lodge you can’t much closer to lake without a boat. There’s quite a selection of cabin types all get an outside balcony and chairs but not all get lake views, but the view is never far away, so it’s worth checking what you are booking. Our cabin was spacious, comfortable and clean consisting of 2 queen beds, a separate bathroom and a lounge / kitchen area with a huge panoramic window great for enjoying the sunset or taking in view at breakfast. The cabins aren’t super luxsorius but then there not supposed to be, they have more of a traditional relaxed older style / cottage feel to them. The upstairs cabins would be best as you can get some noise but Its pretty much the most idyllic spot for exploring from.

Room Tip: Top floor cabins are best, go for a cabin with a lake view.

We were expecting a very tired, run down property based on earlier reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised! It certainly wasn't fancy, but for a lodge in a national park, it was just fine.

It WAS expensive. Ridiculously so. Painfully so. We've never paid $295 in our life for a place to sleep. The accommodations weren't worth the price, yet at the same time we're glad we did it.

We had a lakeside retreat that was an upstairs unit. We always prefer upstairs units so we don't hear heavy footsteps and squeaky floors above us when we're trying to sleep, but upstairs is especially important here so you can have a better view above the shrubs. (and our unit DID have a squeaky floor by my side of the bed and I felt so bad for the people downstairs every time I stepped on it!)

We sort of comforted ourselves in paying the high price by being able to save on food costs since it had a kitchen of sorts (2 burner cook top, pots/pans, sink, full size fridge). I cooked a quick spaghetti dinner in the late afternoon and a nice scrambled egg breakfast in the morning. It was so enjoyable to have the extra time in the room and on the deck eating with THAT view, rather than spending time in a restaurant.

We had a king size bed in the bedroom and it was the most fantastic, comfortable bed of all the 11 beds my husband and I slept in on this trip. It was SO nice. The only problem was that we didn't get to enjoy it long since we got up for sunrise.

The kids slept on the pull out sofa sleeper in the living room. It wasn't great, but they did okay. The bedding was already on the sofa sleeper folded up inside.

The bathroom was fine but what was particularly nice about it was the sink was outside the toilet/shower room which I usually don't like, but it was in a room itself so somebody could be in the sink room getting ready while someone was in the shower. Also liked that the bathroom was connected to the bedroom (also a door through the kitchen area).

Main lodge was nice. Sat and enjoyed the fireplace while eating some ice cream (purchased a pint at the little gas station convenience store). Also a quick check in with the internet was had in the lobby.

We drove up to the top of Signal Mtn for the sunrise but was so disappointed that you can't actually see the Tetons from the summit! There was just a valley view. Trees blocked the Teton side.

We did enjoy the deck. Great outdoor furniture, but only 2 seats. No mosquitoes this time of year. One of the windows did not close all the way, so that would have been an issue had there been mosquitoes or it was really, really cold out.

The log cabins are very comfortable. Comfy beds, easy-to-control heating, nice linens. QUIET!!! It would be nice if Wi-Fi went to guest cabins, but we settled for time in the lodge itself to use our computers. The staff inside is very nice and they make you feel welcome on the porch, in the lounge area, in the TV room, or by the fireplace. All is good! There are laundry facilities in the lodge building, as well as a fresh water fountain to refill water bottles. The adjacent restaurants are wonderful, too! I highly recommend the Cobb salad, and the Blackberry Margaritas are worthy of a try, too!

My wife and I stayed here one night. The cabins are clean and comfortable. They are reasonably priced and in a good location to Jackson Lake Lodge (for wildlife viewing in the evening), Oxbow Bend (wildlife, photo opportunity) and a short distance to String/Jenny Lake. You can't get any closer to the water - they are either right on - or very close to the water.

This was our second stay at Signal Mountain Lodge. We chose a large room with king-size bed and fireplace for the second time. (Country Room?) It's spacious and has a living area and a sort of kitchenette with microwave and mini-fridge. We wish there had been a freezer space in the mini-fridge. We like the lodge's location near Oxbow Bend and the views from Signal Mountain Lodge are fantastic, unless there is lots of smoke as there was when we first arrived. One morning it was smoky and foggy and you couldn't even see the Tetons, but later during our visit the visibility improved. We were spoiled on our first visit with clear blue skies. My only complaint would be that the coffee pot needed to be cleaned, but we were on the go constantly and didn't take time to complain. We were able to book the float trip on the Snake River one evening. That was a lot of fun. The staff at the lodge was very helpful on our visit. At the Trapper Grill, we liked the chicken enchiladas. The blackberry pie was fabulous! Peaks we thought was overpriced with so-so food, but the service was good and the ambience is lovely.

Room Tip: We would have preferred an end unit, but didn't have a choice although we stayed there 4 nights...

Signal Mountain Lodge is located in the middle of spectacular Grand Teton National Park. The site has a onvenient store, gas station, 2 restaurants, gift shop, lodge, and 1&2 bedroom cottages for guests. We stayed in a 1 bedroom with a gas fireplace. The cottage was clean and comfortable and the staff did a good job each day with upkeep. As we were there in late Sept, the fireplace was appreciated in the evening, although the thermostat on the wall did a fine job of keeping the room toasty. We hiked many trails in this amazing park during our 5 night stay and the lodge location made the drives to the trail-heads not too burdensome. The guest laundry was also handy.
We ate at both restaurants. The Peaks had the fancier food and The Grille had a more family-friendly menu. In both cases the wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable about both the food, beer (7 on tap, quite nice), and the area. The cost for each restaurant was quite reasonable, especially compared to not-so-nearby Jackson.
The lodge is open 24hours and has wireless internet for those of us who cannot totally separate from our i-pads on vacation! There are many small groupings of comfortable chairs and sofas, a large gas fireplace which guests are welcome to turn on or off as desired, a TV room with a cabinet full of board games and, again, the very friendly, helpful staff. Coffee is put out at 6am so it is nice to come to the lodge in the morning, check the email, sip coffe, and watch the dawn reveal beautiful Jackson Lake and the Teton Mountains just outside the picture windows.

Room Tip: Only the 2 bedroom cottages have refrigerator and coffeemaker. The one bedroom does not. Fireplace...
