“Spiritual, serene experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

I first learned about this medicine wheel 25 years ago in university and have wanted to visit it ever since. There are many medicine wheels and cairns scattered across the plains but mostly in Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada. This one is the most well known and well preserved.

The walk up to the wheel will take 25-30 minutes if you are fit. There is a park ranger at the wheel who can answer you questions.

The day I went I was the only one at the wheel. With the isolation, the fantastic view and only the sound of the wind it is quite a spiritual experience.

“A wonderful, peaceful spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

It is a 3 mile (5km) round trip walk on a gravel road (think forest service road). It is by no means difficult, however the altitude, almost 10,000ft (3048m) is what makes it a challenge for all the "flat landers". Take your time, soak in the beautiful view, take a rest on one of the benches along the way. It is worth the walk. A fully intact medicine wheel on the top of a mountain! The rangers at the bottom were wonderful and a wealth of knowledge and the ranger at the medicine wheel was too! If that's your sort of thing it is definitely worth the side trip. We spent almost two hours there but we also dropped the tailgate when we got back and had a snack so probably 60 - 90 mins is all thats needed really.

“A Must See for 'stone circle' hounds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

I've seen stone circles all over England, Scotland, Ireland, and this just tops them off! It is truly an interesting thing to see and ponder the minds of the ancients and think "what were they thinking" and to top it off with such a beautiful place! The views going up Medicine Mountain are worth it alone, but the Medicine Wheel really tops it off!

“Beautiful Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

The Native American Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark is a beautiful spot on top of a mountain in the Bighorn Mountain Range. It's approximately 10,000 feet in elevation and you do have to hike the last mile maybe. The scenery is gorgeous on the hike and when you get to the wheel. The rangers who were working on July 28th when we visited were very welcoming and knowledgeable.
Be certain you have enough water and that you're ready for a little altitude. You see a great deal of marmots and very colorful birds on the hike up.
The medicine wheel is incredibly interesting and we learned a great deal!

“SIMPLY AMAZING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

This place was awesome! Had to park and walk 1.5 miles to get to it but seeing it was worth every step. High elevation. .nearly 10,000 feet.
Young ranger interpreter was very knowledgeable of the Wheel. Restrooms were spotless. Handicap are allowed to drive up to the wheel.
