“Meh...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2010

Passed through here on my way to Scott's Bluff. Spent the night at a motel and got up the next day to search for stuff to do. Honestly, not a lot there. BUT, if you are passing through, the one thing you should see (well worth a visit) is the Territorial Prison museum. They have really done a very fine job with that. Great history, interesting reconstructions, well-preserved buildings, well-done restorations. Among other interesting tidbits, it's where Butch Cassidy served his only (short) jail time.

“Lost in Laramie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2009

Interesting wild west town. Great proximity to Veedavoo climbing and scenery. Great fishing both lake and stream. Best kept secret: the Dinosaur Museum at the University of Wyoming. This is a world class collection and research facility. The dinos themselves actually came from practically down the street. Jurassic Park relied on them for the models. The location is a little far for a day trip to Yellowstone or Jackson Hole.

“Great Friendly College Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2007

Laramie is a great friendly college town with a nice selection of restaurants and coffee shops. However it's selection of lodging has a lot to be desired. After the Hampden Inn, Bayfield Inn and Comfort Inn, their is a big drop in quality. However, some new facitilties are coming on line in the next few months and the quality of lodging should improve.

“Outlaw Past”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2004

Laramie touts itself as the "Outdoor Town with The Outlaw Past". Based on my experience here for the last 3 years, I would have to say that Laramie still harbors a den of outlaws. The only four year public university in Wyoming is located in Laramie, yet Albany County has the lowest per-capita income in the state. The rental property borders on third-world quality and is priced like summer beach rentals. Decent affordable housing is not to be found here.

I have met some of the friendliest people I have known here in Laramie. Unfortunately, it is the exception. Rudeness abounds here. The reputation that New Yorkers have for rudeness pales in comparison to the way most people will treat you in this town.

The local government has consistently skewed the local laws and ordinaces to protect the local business and land owners. A recreation center was recently constructed, but many of the facilities that you would find at most municipal recreation centers were purposely left out to protect the two poor excuses for health clubs that are owned by locals.

In a nutshell, Laramie lacks jobs, housing, public facilities and an attitude that could make it a great little town.

Why do I stay? I am not. I am in the process of relocating elsewhere.

“Beautiful Scenery, Unfriendly people”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2004

My traveling friend and I enjoyed Laramie and thought the scenery was beautiful! We were a bit dismayed that the people were not very friendly. I made the mistake of talking to strangers at Burger King and thought they were going to have me arrested! I'm not the ax murder type, just an elderly southern lady!
