Upon entering the forest the views don't seem that remarkable, but once you get to Lake Marie you will realize the beauty of this preserve. The huge boulders that look like a river of rock, the peak of Medicine Bow Mountain, the clear waters of the lake...magnificent. The hiking trails bring you to several secluded wonderlands, and the campgrounds are all very rustic but gorgeous. Brooklyn lake was one of the prettiest campgrounds I've seen. We stayed at the Nash Campground, and it was very quiet and lovely. BUT, it gets really really cold at night! We were there in the middle of August and the day time temps were very comfortable. Don't be deceived. Check with the ranger stations at each end of the forest for info on weather before you decide to camp!
