“Don't expect much of the kitchenette”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2007

We rented a kitchenette at the Elk Refuge Inn for two days. The exhaust fan for the oven did not work. The oven was 35 years old, (the manager said it was 'new' in 1975). Only two of the three range top elements worked. The oven itself did not work. The dishes: Cooking utensils were worn out. There was only one pot and two fry pans, all were worn and scratched. The dishes were few but clean. There was only one drinking glass, although there were several plastic cups. Very strangely, there was a flower vase in with the dishes. Silverware: the vegetable grater had dried up old cheese in it. The refrigerator is as old as the oven, the ice box had no door to retain cold and it ran all night, just barely keeping things cool. The microwave is small and runs only at half power.

Be careful of the wall mounted lights..the fixture over the bed kept falling off the wall!

The sheets were worn (but clean) and the pillows were old and a bit musty.

While the room itself was clean and the beds relatively new, we won't be going back. The price for a kitchenette was outrageous, considering the pathetic conditon it was in.

Nice non-smoking and no pet hotel. You can drive your car up to all the rooms. Room has a refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, and sink. Room is clean and has internet.

There is a discount if you have AAA. I paid $151 a night with tax. If you want to get on the internet don't forget your ethernet cable. The hotel doesn't provide one.

The best things about this room were that it looked very clean and it had a long, but very old bathroom countertop. Other than that, it had concrete block walls, we ran out of hot water the first morning, no breakfast provided, the only storage was 2 small drawers under the bathroom countertop, no iron or board, front desk mgr not very nice, forced to pay in advance (not req'd by any of the other lodging facilities that we stayed at during this trip), the sign outside doesn't even have the name of the hotel on it (it says "Jackson Hole Information"). The reason we ended up staying there was that the town was full over July 4, and it was pretty much the only thing available. We paid $125 + tax - waaaay over-priced.

I chose the Elk Refuge Inn due to it's location directly across from the National Elk Refuge about 1-2 miles outside of the town of Jackson Hole.
When I contacted the motel directly...I was offered the weekly rate which averaged out to about $35/night for a week. Single night rates were about $59. Wow! I jumped on it since my other inquiries around town was averaging $125 a night.
It's an older motel/inn that has been kept up well.Average size rooms with refridgerator/microwave. 2 sinks-one in bathroom & one in the dressing area. Comfortable bed.
When you walk out the door in the winter, hundreds of Elk are across the road in the valley with snow-covered mountains in the background. Amazing sight as the sun rises above the hills. To your right you can see the town of Jackson and the Snow King ski resort. You are just minutes away from the Jackson Square, stores & restaraunts.
The manager of Elk Refuge Inn is VERY accomodating and helped guide me in all areas as I requested. He also keeps free drinks and snacks in the small front office (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, peanuts, fresh fruit and sometimes biscuits/gravy/jams).
If you want the Four Seasons or another fancy hotel to see and be seen...they're available in Jackson. But if you want a comfortable, inexpensive place to lay your head as you spend most of your time sightseeing & playing...the Elk Refuge Inn might suit your needs. I was very happy with the quiet little motel on the hill outside of town.
