“Could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Good location outside of town and near the airport. Lovely view. The price would have been reasonable if they hadn't been in the middle of renovations. Our room had a quarter inch gap at the bottom. The office said the door had "broken" and they were waiting for the part to fix it. Hmmmm! It was pretty cold so we stuffed a towel under the door. The kitchenette had no silverware which made it hard to eat cereal! When one of our group went to get a breakfast muffin that had been promised, they were all gone. They suggested he could visit the convenience store next door and buy one. I do think they are in the process of fixing the place up but might work on their attitude a bit. I expect better for $145 a night.

Dear Margy8100,

Thank you so much for staying with us and I apologize for any inconvenience you experienced while at the Elk Refuge Inn. We have been putting new carpets in the room and the doors didn’t quite match up in height. We try to be quick and efficient with all renovations, but I do apologize that it hindered your stay with us. We must have been really busy when you visited Jackson if we ran out of muffins! At the Elk Refuge Inn we pride ourselves on being friendly and helpful to all costumers and I truly apologize if you did not experience that. We hope you stay with us again and we can be more accommodating!

It's an old place with new bed, tv, and carpets. It is just north of Jackson, which I found to be a good thing. Jackson is jammed with tourist shops, motels, and eateries with road construction to make humorous.
I discovered that they provided a variety of muffins for your breakfast enjoyment and you could make coffee in your room.
We arrived late at night and they had left the key in an envelope by the office door.
The room has microwave and a refrigerator. Note: the refrigerator sits on the floor and the door drags across the carpet. But the world is not perfect.
The pillows are of the hard foam variety and should last for years. I did find a small one and was able to sleep on the firm mattress most of the night.
The bath has one small sink with a nearby toilet. The bathtub is in the room following and has a shower option and a curved shower curtain. But the bathroom area looks to be original.
Our room also has a switch that toggles between off, a window AC unit and base board heat. I was told the thermostat controlled the heat. But I found that you got heat when turned it on and you had to move the switch to off to get no heat. The AC worked in a similar fashion.
Note; While we were in Jackson, rooms were hard to find and some places raise their rates as they near capacity.

Dear Mrjack37,

Thank you so much for staying with us while you were in Jackson Hole! Our building is old, but we do renovations every year to keep it modern, comfortable, and clean. I’m glad you liked our location, although we are only a mile away it is amazing how much quieter and relaxing it is when you get out of downtown Jackson. We do suggest that our guests book a room before coming into town as many times our hotel and others in town are sold out. Thank you for a great, informative review and we look forward to seeing you again on your next visit to Jackson.

I recently stayed three nights at the Elk Refuge Inn and felt it offered excellent value. My room came with a King bed and a kitchenette which, though cozy, offered everything I needed. Although the motel fronts a busy road, my room was very quiet. Plus, It offered a wonderful view of the National Elk Refuge across the road, with mountains in the bacground. The staff was uniformly friendly and welcoming. Coffee, donuts and muffins were available each morning in the lobby, and most rooms have a little patio where you could eat outside in nice weather. The motel is undergoing some renovations (the closet in my room was still drywall), and it feels fresh, bright and clean. The motel is conveniently located, a mile or so north of downtown Jackson, and less than 15 minutes' drive from Jackson Hole Airport and the Moran or Moose Junction accesses to Grand Teton National Park. I wil certainly plan on staying there the next time I visit Jackson, and would recommend it highly to others.

Dear WyoFanCody,

I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay with us at the Elk Refuge Inn! Thank you for choosing us! The kitchenettes are great for 3 or more night stays and I’m glad you found it accommodating. It sounds like you stayed in the ground floor rooms, which have nice patios to sit out on and enjoy the view. Thank you for a great review and we look forward to seeing you again!

Location is about 1.5 miles north of downtown with a great view of the plains looking over part of the elk refuge. At $200 night, the internet was good but the rooms are very dated. Parking was easy. Door did not fit well and you could see light around the bottom edge. Walls had holes and scrub places that could easily be fixed. Tub had hair on drain. Bed were clean and comfortable and there is a small fridge, two burner electric stove and it has cooking and eating utensils as well as supplies to wash dishes with. Quiet location on main road leading to Yellowstone and Grand Teton and right across from bike/walking path. There is a balcony for second floor rooms with chairs which is nice. I don't understand why the management of these hotels which charge these high rates do not put some money back into regular upkeep and updating. I guess this is part of the Jackson Hole mystique?

Dear Morris c,

Thank you for staying with us on your vacation to Jackson Hole. I’m glad you had a comfortable stay, with only minor inconveniences. We reviewed your post and have noted things that could have improved your time with us. We do work very hard to renovate rooms and provide our guests with a clean, comfortable stay. Many hotels in Jackson, including the Elk Refuge Inn are small family owned businesses, which is probably part of the mystique that you are feeling. We work hard to keep our hotel modern and are happy to take suggestions. I’m sorry that your experience wasn't great, but we appreciate your business and hope that on your next visit to Jackson Hole we can be more accommodating!

Very disappointed with Jackson Wyoming. Everything is way over priced. Our room was pretty good. The carpet was new, but they put to much padding under the rug at the entrance. It was very hard to get the door to open. And some had left food in the fridge. The sliding glass door lock was broken, it had a make shift lock in the door track, other than that the room had Plenty of space with two double beds, a dining table and TV in main section adjoining a small kitchen and the room was very nice and it was Clean. It did cost us $395 for the two nights. There is nothing cheap in this town.

We were so lucky to find the Elk Refuge Inn - at a substantially lower cost than the in-town hotels, the Elk Refuge Inn rooms were large, clean, and comfortable and only a mile or so from downtown Jackson. There's a walking path from the hotel into downtown, and a free bus leaves from the museum only a few doors down. The short distance from downtown means the hotel is quiet, but not inconvenient and the view across the Elk Refuge (which all rooms have) is very pretty.

On the upper level the rooms have kitchenettes (which we took advantage of), on the lower level they don't. There's also a charcoal grill on site if you want to cook out. The rooms are spacious (larger upstairs than downstairs) and the wifi worked well. There's a gas station and small shop next door. The fact that it's on the north side of Jackson makes it easier and faster to get to the parks and the airport.

We spent two nights at Elk Refuge Inn, the room was very good with sliding glass doors onto a balcony facing the refuge. Plenty of space int the room with two double beds, a dining table and TV in main section adjoining a small kitchen. Very handy to have the microwave, range and fridge. Bathroom had good lighting with sink outside of tub area which is handy. The carpet looked new. Just a few minutes from downtown Jackson Hole, very convenient to restaurants, grocery, etc.
The girl working front desk was cordial and helpful. We stayed on the second floor which has parking just outside the room. Very handy location for visiting Tetons.

Room Tip: rooms with kitchenette are larger, second floor has good views
