“Friendly Motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2011

We stayed at this property for one night as part of a roadtrip. We received a very friendly welcome and were checked in quickly. The room was pretty basic and a bit dated in decor but it was very clean. We had an ajoining door to the room next door which was locked. This meant we could faintly hear the people next door which was not a problem for us but may be for others. The place has a swimming pool which is a real bonus but we didn't use this. The value of the stay was pretty decent compared to some of the other properties which are closer to Jackson. We managed to find some good places within walking distance where we could eat in the evening. I would say this property is 'good' so would equate to a 3 and a half rating if tripadvisor did this- better than average but not 'very good'.

My family of four spent our last night in Wyoming here. I booked a suite several months before our trip. A few weeks later, I received an email about letting me know we would be getting a free room upgrade because a wedding party needed all the smaller rooms.

We rolled into Jackson after a week in Yellowstone. You have to drive through central Jackson to reach the hotel from the north. This was fine because we were not yet ready for crowds. It also put us in a great location for reaching the Snake river for a rafting trip that evening.

The desk clerk was new to the job, but very helpful. He even escorted us to our room because the door was not directly off the parking lot. The upgrade was to a condo with full kitchen, eating area, large living room w/ TV, two queen bedrooms, and bath. It also had a large balcony with seating overlooking the heated pool. Everything looked brand new and very clean. We slept like rocks. Our only disappointment was that we had to leave after only one night!

Room Tip: If you can afford one of the condos, it's worth it!

We had 2 nights here. The location is good, just a few minutes from downtown Jackson Hole. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean (could use a few updates and a vaccuum in the corners) for the most part.....the bedding is very clean and fresh. Not much natural light. Rate is a bit high for what you get but seems to be in line with the area. I did see a few rooms with kitchenettes that looked nicer than ours. Our room had a queen bed and then bunk beds which was nice for a family. They have guest laundry but I had to wait until a staff person was done washing hotel sheets (hey, at least they're getting washed!). Heated pool, picnic tables, grill, green, nice grass.

Room Tip: They do allow pets so be sure to ask for a non-pet room if you require it.

I stayed at Pony Express three times over the course of two weeks - before, between and after camping trips in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Clint and Kristi were helpful and responsive before the trip - confirming my stay, letting me drop a bag so I didn't have to take backpacking gear kayaking (and vise versa). During the stays they were great with suggestions in town, tips for the parks, and even loaned us bear spray, which we almost needed!

The rooms are clean, well maintained and recently renovated. The pool was warm and they have washer and dryer onsite. Many more parks to see, but if I make it back there I'll be returning to this hotel!

Thanks for making my stay great!
Brian

The folks at Pony Express are great people. They were incredibly accommodating when our reservations changed last minute and we needed to check in a day early. They even found a specialist to help fix our camper troubles. Its not the Four Seasons, but it was clean and the price is right.

The people are pleasant, and they have a very sweet, older dog. The motel is adequate for one night, but it is not great. By the time you have paid for the room and contributed to the tax base of Wyoming and Jackson, you may easily have spent over $150/night. That is a lot of money for a motel room much in need of a complete remodel. Although, in fairness, lodging is rather pricey in this touristy, faux Western town.

We wanted a simple, inexpensive but clean place to lay our head while exploring Jackson and the Tetons and the Poney Express Motel was it! Clint and Kristi are warm, gracious and knowledgable hosts. The place is nothing fancy but very clean. The pool, though again nothing fancy, was very clean and perfect for a quick cool down. Nice hammock, bbq and sitting area too. We were upgraded to the condos from the room with the bunk bed and though both were nice the condo was a great bonus with a nice kitchen and 2 seperate bedrooms. If you want fancy and elegant this is not the place but if you want a clean, comfortable place with very nice people that won't break your wallet check this place out. It is close to the road, so there is some traffic noise but for us that was not an issue.
My only comment is that the kitchen could use some basics - napkins, salt and pepper (though plenty of dishes and cooking ware).
