This was our best trip to the west. It was not the best hotel I have used, ergo the name of the review. This is a ranch. If I were to rate it as a ranch it would be a solid four stars. Don't go here expecting the usual four star hotel treatment. It has retained much of its real western charm, which we loved. Four star hotels are a dime a dozen, four star ranches that give you that real western feel are hard to find.
The rooms are very large and comfortable, but they are somewhat spartan. We had a great fireplace with lots of wood, the bath was large and well done, but there weren't the usual soaps, fluffy towles and creams you expect from a four star. That's the ranch aspect. There was no dresser or drawers for our clothes.
The restaurant was GREAT!!! The views were fabulous, the food was very good, the service was hot and cold. One day our server was great, the next it could be iffy. They are all young kids who are in Jackson Hole to hike, bike and have a ball. They were all great kids, but they could use a little more focus on their jobs.
Our room was about a five minute walk from the front desk and the spa, which was fine, except at night. The lighting was spare. You must rent a car if you stay here. Everything, including town ,requires driving.
We found housekeeping to be very good and very responsive to our one request for feather pillows. The concierge, Kyle, was one of the best. Everything he recommended was great. The pool, spa and meeting faclities were well above average. We had three special events for our group, two lunches and one dinner, all were very nicely done. The wranglers, who lead our horseback riding, were exceptional. This is not ot be missed. They are the real thing.
The night nature tour is the very best. You must do this. We had an entire herd of 1000 buffalo pass us. Bears, moose, bald eagles, it was great.
Overall, we loved this place and will return. The views from almost anywhere on this property are nothing short of majestic. We found ourselves just sitting and staring in awe.
If you're looking for a western experience, other than the usual Fairmont, Four Seasons, etc., try Spring Creek. Just don't compare it to the usual hotel, it is something very special and a cut above.
