I've been hunting for veal Parmigiana between Omaha and Kansas City with limited success, then while a friend and I were rolling our way to Montana in September 2012, I hit pay dirt.Driving toward Cody we were trolling the internet for places to eat. I mentioned Italian, jokingly. He said, "Here's a place and they offer six different veal entrees." I accelerated the vehicle!
We pulled in to Adriano's; pleasant ambiance, crowded, friendly staff seated us at the bar. Short wait and then on to the table. Opted for stuffed mushroom caps and they were excellent. This is an appetizer I enjoy but often find the mushrooms a little watery. Not here, the texture was perfect and the spice in the stuffing was delicious and a hint of mysterious. You can't beat great taste and wondering just what that extra bit of flavor comes from - relieves food boredom.
Among the six veals, the choice of the Parmigiana was a given; given that I thought I should only have one. I think a six night in a row - different veal every night - veal taste-off would be a wonderful thing. Decided I wanted fettuccine as a side but noticed the sauce choice was wider than common, including a red or white anchovy. lengthy discussion with the waitress was not working - she wasn't an anchovy fan.
Asked for the chef and out she came. Chef Chrissy Linderman is a treasure, well-trained, extremely talented and as bright and pleasant to talk with as they come. Settled me on the White Anchovy Sauce and it was superb! The contrast of the flavorful, slightly sweet red sauce on the veal with the zesty, not too salty anchovy cream on the pasta was heaven. She mentioned all the veal, sirloin cut, came in fresh and I believe her. it was well breaded, mild but distinctly flavored and perfectly cooked. Best I've ever had.
During the wait for the entrees, we asked to sample dipping bowls of the Marinara and Bolognese sauces. Both were very good and the Bolognese especially is worth another visit, after I finish the sixth veal dinner.
My friend likes to rate meals by state. Having dined frequently in Jackson Hole, he rated the overall experience, "best dining I've had in Wyoming." He's a world traveler and doesn't give accolades lightly. For me, it was perfect; five star food, matching service and ambiance, and completely unexpected. Italian in Cody, who'd have ever thunk it?
