Looks a little rough on the outside; gravel parking lot and all. Room was spotlessly clean, bed comfortable, plenty of good towels, good advice on local food, good response to road and pass questions. Very economical.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Once for 2 nights on the way to the Yellowstone NP and for 1 night on the way back.

The motel rooms are clean. The first time we stayed, the room had a microwave & fridge. + it was more recently renovated (I think). The second time, there was no microwave (which was slightly difficult as we're vegetarian & veg food is a bit of a problem in Cody. Much easier to get some ready microwavable packets from the huge 24-hour walmart nearby OR get a veg pizza at the hawaiian pizza place on the main street).

The lady owner at the reception desk was very friendly and helpful. (That goes for all the people we met in Cody. Very warm and friendly)

There is a shared washing machine outside the reception which you can use for a nominal fee.

Big bear is a 10 minute drive from the main street of Cody.

My stay at the historic Big Bear Motel in Cody, Wyoming was a great experience. The room was extremely clean and comfortably equipped. The staff was responsive to my needs and the owners were knowledgeable and more than helpful in making sure I had a memorable time. Bill and Jody (Holly) have really succeeded in preserving the historic value of the motel without sacrificing convenience and comfort for the guests. They even have a collection of Model A cars and roadsters! Mrs. Holly keeps a stable of horses at the far end of the complex and gives pony rides and an occasional lesson. It was great fun to watch!
The town of Cody is all that is advertised and more. The Buffalo Bill Museum is undoubtedly world class with its extensive and historic gun collection, Native American history, cowboy memorabilia, art collection, shows, etc. I especially loved the scenic byways, though. The drive to Yellowstone is absolutely specatular with its enormous lake, awesome canyons and towering mountain backdrop! Chief Joseph Highway, west of town, is another lovely way to spend a day. It was difficult to keep driving without stopping every couple of miles to take pictures!
I would highly recommend the Big Bear to everyone, especially families, who want a fun and exciting vacation in the Wild West!

The first day was wonderful. We arrived at the airport at 5am, and Bill of the Big Bear, came in one of his delightful, old , antique, Model A cars to pick us up and take us back to the hotel. Check in went smoothly, and we slept for 4 hours in our beautiful, clean and spacious room. The setting is quite beautiful, with Wyoming's beautiful mountains facing us, and the wonderful sound of the large Shone river behind us.
The Big Bear Motel is right in the center of many of the great attractions of Cody, Wy. There is a fabulous American Indian Museum right across the street., that you must visit, and an actual Rodeo, walking distace from the Big Bear! The Buffalo Bill Cody Museum is less than 1 mile down the road. I've never seen so many old guns in my life!
There are many great places to eat in Cody. We couldn't pick our favorite breakfast and lunch places(that are actually located right across the street from The Big Bear), but our favorite dinner place was Erma's! That's a great steak and potatoes place one mile from the Big Bear. They have an incredible buffet to die for!
Yellowstone Park is a short drive away. The beautiful sites on the way make it a must on this vacation. We went trout fishing two days, and caught large (1-3lb) rainbow, or lake trout almost every cast! Talk about exciting!
Bill and Jody are very helpful, and usually suggested many fun things for us to do. One day we went on a helecopter ride for only $75.00, and it was at the lot next door to the Big Bear!
After a long exciting day, it's always nice to know we could come back to our clean, comfortable room, and jump in the huge pool if we wanted to. We did that almost every night. One day we went white water rafting in the Shone River. Now that was adventure! We stopped along the way to sun ourselves on a large rock one time, we had gotten so wet!
Jody keeps her horses in the back of the main office, and takes small children on pony rides. She even let me ride one of her horses, after I told her I had my own horse back home.
All in all, the Big Bear Motel was the nicest experience I have yet to enjoy in my short time on this earth, and I hope you take my advice, and head out for Cody, Wyoming, and stay at the Big Bear!

Our family had a blast at the Big Bear! We wanted a real western experience, and we got it! The big franchise hotel/motels have nothing on this place! It was walking distance to the Cody Night Rodeo which goes until 10PM and was a great ending to a night of dining at Cassie's....Best steaks in town! Our rooms were very clean and comfortable and the owners, Bill and Jody were very accomodating with extra towels and stories of the local folklore and reccommendations for places to visit in town! Jody has horses right at the motel and even gave me a riding lesson....which is a standard perk for guests at the Big Bear, not to mention the pool which is open 24 hours....lots of fun on a hot summer's night after the rodeo!

This was our first time coming to Cody. We never expected to find a motel that made us feel like we were at home. The Big Bear Motel was the most comfortable stay of any where we have ever been. The room was comfortable and clean. The owners, Jody and Bill were very helpful. And to top it off there was a minature horse riding around in a golf cart! We will be back for sure!!

Do not stay here! I cried the first 2hrs we were there. I was so disappointed that AAA had this on their hotel list. I also had read the reviews from this web site. I thought it would be nice. It was very old & dark. It was clean though. There were NO: kleenex, extra toilet paper, clock, radio, trash can in bathroom, no stage coach, adult horse rides. The continental breakfast was mini donuts from the store & bananas. The pillows were hard as a rock. I was so disappointed in this room. Our reservations were for 3 nights. Yuk! It was the worst place we stayed at on our trip to Yellowstone & Cody. Stay somewhere else!

  • Liked — It was close to the rodeo.
  • Disliked — The basic supplies weren't even available in the room.
