“Very large and beautiful museum, take your time because you need it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

This is an amazing museum with so much to see that you need a lot of time. That is why the ticket you buy is valid for two days. You get to see five museums under one roof.

The Draper Natural History Museum with a very good and educational display of all that is going on in nature in the Yellowstone region. Beautiful galleries with a wealth of information.

The Buffalo Bill Museum with an exhausting display of artefacts from the great Buffalo Bill who travelled the world with his shows.

The Whitney Western Art Museum with a fine collection of art, very tasteful on display in the galleries.

The Plains Indian Museum with many, many artefacts from the (lost) Indian culture and a large theatre where the story of the Indian tribes with a light show is told.

The Cody Firearms museum with the history of gun making and a huge collection of weapons. The 1st floor carries 1500+ weapons and when that is not enough there are more on the 2nd floor.

For the researchers who want to go deeper into matters there is the McCracken Research Library.

When you are visiting don't forget the outside sculpture garden.

There is a nice eatery and café for sandwiches and more

“Excellent museum on every aspect of the Wild West !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

This World Class museum is really a MUST-SEE for all those who are interested in learning more about the Old Wild West.

The museum is in fact an amalgam of 5 museums.

First of all there is the Buffalo Bill Museum, where you can learn everything about Cody's most famous former resident.
Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show not only toured around America, they toured around Europe as well, in the company of famous Native Americans such as Sitting Bull, and with a complete menagerie in tow !

I knew that when they performed in Gent in Belgium (in September 1906, according to the curator), that that performance made such a big impression on the inhabitants of Gent that they named their soccer team KAA Gent, "The Buffaloes" ; and their emblem is up untill today an Indian with a feather headdress.

The other 4 museums in the Buffalo Bill Center are the fantastic Plains Indian museum, the interesting Western Art museum, the Fire Arms Museum and a Natural History Museum.

All the exhibits are presented in a modern and educational way, and can keep everybody interested for an entire afternoon (or longer !).

And if you just can't get enough of it, there is a gift shop too.
More information on the website of the museum : www.centerofthewest.org

Enjoy you visit !

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

This museum is fantastic. For the price of $18 you can spend over 4 hours learning about everything from guns to art. What a truly holistic view of west. We especially enjoyed the gun exhibit-even if you are not a gun nut the beauty of these pieces and the historic exhibits of 1800s gunsmith shop, stagecoach stop and cabin are all very interesting. Many of the guns are truly things of beauty. The art gallery is very educational and kids would surely enjoy the many activities for them from coloring to writing a postcard. There is also an exhibit of F Remington's art studio with audio description that is moving. The section on the Native people and how they lived, worked and travelled was AMAZING! you can go into a earthen home, walk through a plains tepee area, see into a tepee and its contents, and much much more. The Buffalo Bill area may be great also, we were short of time and skipped it as I had been there over 40 years ago. Very friendly staff, research areas that we didn't enter but are available to all. Extensive gift shop. Beautiful gardens and sculptures on the grounds.
