“Beautifully restored!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

We'd been to Cheyenne about 20 years ago before the old Union Pacific Depot had been restored and, obviously, before all the Depot Plaza had been built. We were excited to see both the exterior and interior renovations.
The exterior is marvelous. Really brought the old beauty back to her previous glory. However, we were disappointed with the interior as little is left of that old depot feel. I understand the reason for the museum and other fund-raising things that have been done. Without them, the Depot could not be maintained. However, a few more nods needed to made to what it was: a functioning UP station complete with marble floors and ticket windows. Having said that, it was still well worth the visit. Just don't expect to see a restored depot inside.
And the Plaza itself with the signature cowboy boots stationed at various points is great. Take a moment to really look at the Iron Horse statue too. It's amazing.

“Slow, small town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014 via mobile

Cheyenne Depot is a place you can look at some trains. It is not the most interesting place to see trains. I bought a ticket for a trolley tour. It was a 90 degree day and the windows were open. Luckily there is usually a breeze in Cheyenne. The longest stop is at the Carriage museum which has AC. There were a few tourists walking around the plaza and around town. Many places were closed because it was 4th of July weekend.
If you want to mark WY off as a state you have visited, go hiking or go to Yellowstone.

Love the decorated boots here and around Cheyenne. Didn't know this was such a big railroad area. Love the trains!

“Great Place to Start Exploring Cheyenne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2014

Walking around the plaza you get a sense of the history in this town. Inside there is a Visitor's Bureau to pick up brochures and info plus the museum which is very interesting. I took the trolley tour at 2:30 around town which was fun.
I had a map on the tour so I was able to go back to certain spots and get photo's.
You can walk anywhere around town from here.

“Great Place To Walk Around..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

The plaza is downtown. It seems to be a gathering place for locals and tourists. The unique art, local stands and people make this an interesting place to begin your Cheyenne adventure.
