“Charming and quirky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

This hotel is not for everyone. It is a truly historic hotel, not an old hotel that has been modernized to look like a Hilton. It has the charms and the quirks and foibles of an old building, but with amenities like a fridge, coffee maker, and microwave.
This is not a place for a one night stay, as the basic rooms can be very small and over priced.
But for an extended stay, the parlors and suites are excellent and a good value. The beds are very comfortable and the spacious sitting areas have plenty of room on the easy chairs and sofa for a family to sit and talk or watch TV. You can hold a small business meetings in these rooms.
The staff is friendly and helpful. There is some street noise--but not much after 10:00.
The downtown location is very good.

Room Tip: The suites and parlors are spacious and a good value. The basic rooms--not so much.

We stayed here on a tour around western USA. We were looking forward to our stay in Cheyenne after a long trip from Denver. When we arrived we were given home made cookies which were AMAZING! The hotel reception area was lovely and we assumed that our rooms would be of similar standard. We were on the top floor and when we entered the room we realised we were in hell. The room was damp and smelt horrible, the bathroom was not clean, we began to question whether the room had been touched in the last 60 years. The TV was old too. The room was nothing like the pictures on the website. We thought the standards would be better after all the hype about it being a historic cowboy hotel which had been stayed in by famous people. I'm assuming some of the rooms in the hotel were of higher standard than ours but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone as they might end up getting a room like ours. Not happy!

Before and during arrival. Clay made my stay, A great one. This hotel has history and charm. A great restaurant adjacent to the lobby. Great choice of food. This location also offer oversize parking with shuttle pick up. Much to do within walking distance. Will return.

Travel back in time staying at the hotel which was built two years before the Lincoln Highway pushed thru. It didn't get a 5 because of threadbare stair carpet and a couple of less-than-attentive front desk gals. Another was Very helpful. Built in 1913, the hotel has not parking lot; you stroll two blocks to a lot or building. No big deal, even if it is 0 degrees. Cozy hotel Capitol Bar and Grill is a plus also with wood appointments and good service.

Room Tip: Probably interior would be best in busy times.

Since all rooms from Cheyenne to Denver were full, The Plains made sure to take full advantage of that and charge me 160.00 to sleep in a single sized bed for 5 hours. I guess they decided to make as much profit as they could. Lucky for me, I have been able to use other lodging in my subsequent Cheyenne visits. I travel for business and this was one of the few time I really felt ripped off.

Room Tip: Stay anyplace else.

The hotel is an old hotel with that history in mind throughout the hotel. Part of the charm in staying here is the historic rustic feel of the hotel while having modern amenities. Not everything is tighty or in perfect condition, but everything does work if you give it a minute or two. The hotel was built around 1911 and a lot of items are original. It is a fun place to stay if you want the rustic feel. If you like everything having a new feel you might be best to look elsewhere.

This hotel has no parking. The elevator smells like someone died while smoking 17 cigarettes at once. The room was way too hot and the heater was missing a front, making it a danger to small curious children. The couch's fold up bed still had wrinkled used sheets folded up into it. Taking a shower proved impossible, only severely dirty people would choose to take a shower in brown rusty looking water. The pet fee was exorbitant and the staff unenthusiastic. To top it all off they don't even serve any kind of breakfast. Go somewhere else. And if you can't find somewhere else and have to sleep here...well, just sleep in your car. It's a better deal.
