Description: Originally constructed in 1850, the Delton Academy, was a one room Baptist Boys School House. It continued as such until the time of the Civil War. In 1865, it became the Delton Methodist Church. In 1894, the church was expanded and the entry way and side room additions were built. What was originally the entrance was replaced with the G.A.R. stained glass window and the bell tower was added. During this period it was also used as the G.A.R. Hall. The Grand Army of the Republic was the Civil War version of the V.F.W. for the Union army. In 1868, General Order #11 of the G.A.R. called for May 30th to be designated as the day of memorial for Union veterans; originally called "Decoration Day", it later evolved into the U.S. national Memorial Day holiday. The G.A.R. was also active in pension legislation, establishing retirement homes for soldiers, and many other areas which concerned Union veterans. The influence of the G.A.R. led to the creation of the Old Soldiers' Homes of the late 19th century, which evolved into the current United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The back room, bathroom and kitchen addition was added sometime in the 1950's. In the 1970's, the Methodists built a new building across the lake and vacated this one. It was then purchased by a group of local residents and it became the Old Delton Academy Antique Mall. In January of 2000, the building was aquired by it's present owner and after an extensive remodel, became an internet cafe. In the spring of 2007, the building again underwent a revamping and became what it is today; the oldest public building in the southwest Wisconsin area and home of the Brat House Grill. Given it's age, the building still retains it's original wood floor, waitscotting and window frames. It's remarkable what great shape the building is in after it's extenvise and varied history.

I bought the Italian beef meal the last time there. Have tasted their burgers and homemade pizzas. Great food and great service. Definitely will recommend it to others.

“Repeat was just as good as the first time!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

We visited first in March of 2014 and went again last night (June 18, 2014) and both times the food was really good. We were recommended to visit by the owner of Mojo Music because on Wednesday nights they have an open mic jam session. The band is a bunch of older guys playing music from the 70s til now. They also have other musicians play a variety of other music. We enjoyed listening and dancing to the music. They also have a really nice special of 3 dollar brats and 1 dollar off all taps. We had a lot of fun and will make it a point to come back.

“Not bad, but wouldn't go again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

The food was just ok. Over priced for what you get. The service was good though. For a brat, 2 steak sandwhiches, mac and cheese, I was not expecting a $60 meal.

“Fun place to have lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

Easy to find if you are traveling, there is a HUGE sign of a beer stein. The building is actually a converted church and is historic. Good lunch and beer selection.

“Good food, crappy atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

Brought my two kids to this restaurant because we had been given some dining dough and this was the only restaurant in the Dells that accepted the money - watch out though, they only accept one 10 dollar gift certificate per visit - barely enough to cover the tip. Average to overpriced, the kids menu only has three items. We had the steak medallions, an italian beef sandwich, and cheese pizza, each with a 4 dollar side salad. For $4 was a miniscule chopped iceberg lettuce bowl with wafter thin cucumbers and two grape tomatoes. Sad. The pizza was the highlight of the restaurant and the steak medallions were perfectly cooked. If you go here I suggest getting a pizza to go and skipping eating at the restaurant, the dining room is a gray box and the live music is LOUD and out of tune the night we went. Our server obviously was enjoying the music more than his job so we waited forever with my kids' hands over their ears for the check. Probably won't be visiting again.
