Description: Originally constructed in 1850, the Delton Academy, was a one room Baptist Boys School House. It continued as such until the time of the Civil War. In 1865, it became the Delton Methodist Church. In 1894, the church was expanded and the entry way and side room additions were built. What was originally the entrance was replaced with the G.A.R. stained glass window and the bell tower was added. During this period it was also used as the G.A.R. Hall. The Grand Army of the Republic was the Civil War version of the V.F.W. for the Union army. In 1868, General Order #11 of the G.A.R. called for May 30th to be designated as the day of memorial for Union veterans; originally called "Decoration Day", it later evolved into the U.S. national Memorial Day holiday. The G.A.R. was also active in pension legislation, establishing retirement homes for soldiers, and many other areas which concerned Union veterans. The influence of the G.A.R. led to the creation of the Old Soldiers' Homes of the late 19th century, which evolved into the current United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The back room, bathroom and kitchen addition was added sometime in the 1950's. In the 1970's, the Methodists built a new building across the lake and vacated this one. It was then purchased by a group of local residents and it became the Old Delton Academy Antique Mall. In January of 2000, the building was aquired by it's present owner and after an extensive remodel, became an internet cafe. In the spring of 2007, the building again underwent a revamping and became what it is today; the oldest public building in the southwest Wisconsin area and home of the Brat House Grill. Given it's age, the building still retains it's original wood floor, waitscotting and window frames. It's remarkable what great shape the building is in after it's extenvise and varied history.

“OK PLACE IF YOU WANT A BRAT AND BEER”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

It's a bar in what used to be a church. There is quite the history behind it, which was quite interesting. We sat at the bar, and were waited on immediately. Bartender was very friendly and attentive to anything that we needed. I had the jalapeno brat with their homemade Parmesan chips. The flavor of the brat was mediocre. Just OK. It almost had a freezer burnt taste to it. Hubby had a white brat. Again, just a mediocre flavor...almost a real porky taste to it. Too much porky taste. The chips were quite good, and were served with their homemade ranch dip, which was very tasty. It is just an OK place to eat at. Not sure we would return for the brats. Many people have raved about their Friday fish fry, so may want to give them another chance with that. Service was very good.

“Might be a bar but it was great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

This is a bar, we were fortunate to be there for a late lunch so the crowd was small. The food was excellent!! Especially the hommade Parmeson chips! We had Brats and sat off from the main bar with the huge TV screen. Waitress was fabulous. Would go back many times!

“Good and inexpensive comfort food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

After a long day travelling to Wisconsin Dells we just wanted to grab something quick and tasty without too much fuss and bother and this place fitted the bill

The restaurant - especially the bar area - was very busy and noisy, but it was football Sunday evening and they have a sports bar kind of atmosphere. The dining room was quieter and had space. They have a lot of choice on their menu in the way of sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs. Our brats were great (we went for Jalapeno and Andouille), and they have lots of flavours and options for relish etc. We also had onion rings which were very good. Beer prices very are reasonable with my soda costing only a buck less than the local beer.

Given they were quite busy service was quick and efficient and all the staff were friendly

“Great Brats, friendly atmosphere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

We ordered Brats with sauerkraut, home made fry chips and coleslaw to go. Double check your food if their busy. We were missing the 'kraut. They fixed it right up though and the food was great when we ate it back at our motel. If you choose to stay
there to eat they have a big screen tv and a neighborhood bar atmosphere.
