Description: Originally constructed in 1850, the Delton Academy, was a one room Baptist Boys School House. It continued as such until the time of the Civil War. In 1865, it became the Delton Methodist Church. In 1894, the church was expanded and the entry way and side room additions were built. What was originally the entrance was replaced with the G.A.R. stained glass window and the bell tower was added. During this period it was also used as the G.A.R. Hall. The Grand Army of the Republic was the Civil War version of the V.F.W. for the Union army. In 1868, General Order #11 of the G.A.R. called for May 30th to be designated as the day of memorial for Union veterans; originally called "Decoration Day", it later evolved into the U.S. national Memorial Day holiday. The G.A.R. was also active in pension legislation, establishing retirement homes for soldiers, and many other areas which concerned Union veterans. The influence of the G.A.R. led to the creation of the Old Soldiers' Homes of the late 19th century, which evolved into the current United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The back room, bathroom and kitchen addition was added sometime in the 1950's. In the 1970's, the Methodists built a new building across the lake and vacated this one. It was then purchased by a group of local residents and it became the Old Delton Academy Antique Mall. In January of 2000, the building was aquired by it's present owner and after an extensive remodel, became an internet cafe. In the spring of 2007, the building again underwent a revamping and became what it is today; the oldest public building in the southwest Wisconsin area and home of the Brat House Grill. Given it's age, the building still retains it's original wood floor, waitscotting and window frames. It's remarkable what great shape the building is in after it's extenvise and varied history.

“Great place for lunch or an evening drink”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

Love the old building and stained glass. Great place for locals during the Dells Summer rush. Food is always very good, especially their homemade chips! Service will vary based on how crowded they are but they have always been good to us. Child friendly with a great atmosphere.

“Great Find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

We stopped in here last weekend just to grab a quick brat. My husband had the jalepeno brat, and I ended up having the pulled pork with chilpolte BBQ sauce. OMG! I am a pulled pork snob, and this was fantastic! I asked and they make their own BBQ sauce, and it is great! The sandwhiches are also served with homemade potato chips and a mayo dipping sauce. Hubby loved the brat too. The service was outstanding and friendly. We liked the sports bar feel to it as well. I am sure we will be going back to try some of the other items on the menu. A great find!

“Nothing fancy, decent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

We went in here because my husband thought it looked cool!!! The 4 adults all had the brat burger, and it was delicious. The kids had burgers and one had chicken tenders - they all enjoyed their meals. Stay away from the "boneless wings" They have a great selection of beer. Service leaves a lot to be desired, but overall, we would probably go back

“First stop of the evening equals excellent all around!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

We got into the dells about 10 pm this evening and wanted to have a few cocktails--we are staying at Wilderness and drove by the brat house and thought that maybe a great place to start..we were right:-) Our bartender greeted us so nicely and gave us great recommendations for things to do! He was just fun and friendly and when it got a little busy he had a no stress attitude! This was so pleasant to see as I work in the industry as well I think he said his name was Ryan. We will be back cause of the excellent service!!
The pizza we had was awesome as well.

“Not the place to eat, go elsewhere!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

I am not a review writer but here it goes. The waitress was pretty friendly and did make suggestions for us. The beer cheese soup was almost purely beer flavored with little taste of anything else. The chili was basically a tomato juice poured on top of beans. The cheeseburger had little flavor. The wings did not ever come with a sauce. The sauce was brought out in bottles for use....not very sanitary. The German Brat sandwhich was average and the more you ate the worse it got. The ranch tasted spoiled. The waffle fries with cheese were the best thing and average at best. The waitress struggled with refills. I would never recommend this place. Monks Burgers is the much better choice, maybe even Burger King. Save your money and go somewhere else please! Thank you!
